High Speed Train Preview Service Welcomed

Wednesday, 2 September 2009
Dover District Council representatives will be at Dover Priory Station on Monday, 7 September for the inaugural departure of the High Speed Train (HS1) to London St Pancras at 6.42am. This is the first departure of a preview service that will operate until the service starts on 13 December. DDC has worked hard with partner agencies to have this service extended through to Dover, and Cabinet Member Cllr Nigel Collor and Head of Regeneration Tim Ingleton, who have played leading roles on behalf of the Council, will board the train and travel to St Pancras with representatives of Southeastern and other guests.

Cllr Nigel Collor, Cabinet Member for Access and Property Management said: "Seeing HS1 in service at Dover Priory is like a dream come true, and the fact that we can travel to London in just over an hour, and be back in Dover for a meeting at 10am, shows the potential of high speed rail travel. We look forward to Dover realising the benefits that are already being experienced elsewhere, and will follow as a result of us being connected to the high speed service. This great news comes as we continue to work with partners on a range of pivotal regeneration projects that continue to gain momentum for an exciting future."
