Saturday, 28 February 2009
Dover District Council is launching extra initiatives to help residents and businesses during the current economic climate. A new team, working with Citizens Advice Bureau and Pensions Service, is holding roadshows where help is needed, in the heart of communities.

The new Health and Well-Being Team and partners will be at the following locations:

Dover - Wednesday 11 March, Dover Pedestrian Precinct, 10am-2pm
Deal - Wednesday 18 March, The Undercroft, 10am-2pm
Sandwich - Thursday 26 March, the Guildhall Car park, 10am-2pm
Aylesham - Monday 30 March, the Car Park, Eastry Court, 10am-2pm

Staff with specialist skills and knowledge from a range of departments have been brought together to offer help, advice and support in one place. The team is also working closely with a range of other agencies and partners in the community.

The team and partners will target every aspect of life affected by unemployment and lost income. Help will cover housing and Council Tax Benefits, Jobseekers Allowance, disability benefits, redundancy advice employers and employees, advice for everyone aged 60 or over, financial help, specialist debt advice, advice about getting involved with your community, volunteering and access to health advice.

Dover District Council is also bringing together local business groups to identify what support business needs and what can be done to help business and employees through the current climate. Proposals are also being put forward by the Council's Cabinet to double the financial help it has available for business rate relief for businesses struggling to deal with immediate hardship.

Dover District Council, with a range of partners, is formulating a Dover District Financial Inclusion Strategy. The draft can be seen at www.dover.gov.uk/community - click on community development. Your views are welcomed.
