Christmas Events Light Up The Big Screen

Monday, 16 November 2009
A seasonal selection of special events is coming to the Big Screen in Dover Market Square in the run up to Christmas this year.

On Friday 27 November from 4pm, there will be the first showing of a collection of Christmas carols specially recorded by 20 schools across the district. Each school has chosen its own carol to perform, with a mixture of modern and traditional songs. Following the launch, the carols will be shown throughout the festive season.

On Saturday 28 November, there will be range of seasonal animations and images on the Big Screen for the Christmas lights switch on event in Dover, which is organised by Dover Town Council. The screen will be showing images of some of those performing, including Ade Edmondson, who is switching the lights on this year.

On Saturday 19 December from 11.30am to 3.30pm, there will be exciting interactive Christmas games for people to enjoy. The fun event will give people the chance to relax from their Christmas shopping and enjoy playing games on the interactive screen, and there may even be a special appearance by Father Christmas himself.

The installation of the Big Screen in Dover this year followed a wide range of partners working together. It was installed for use by the community for information and local events, as well as for screening national events, including the Olympics in 2012. The BBC provides content and manages the screen.
