Port Of Dover Awarded In Top 50 Green Companies

Friday, 16 May 2008
The Port of Dover, Europe's busiest ferry port, is one of the "Top 50 Green Companies" in the UK.

A new award, presented by The Sunday Times, recognises not just the most radically improved environmental performances, but also takes account of the views of employees - who get to rate their organisation's green credentials.

In a letter to all staff Bob Goldfield, Chief Executive, Port of Dover, said: "I am proud and pleased to hear that we rate as one of the top 50 greenest companies in the UK. This is a great credit to the port's dedicated Environment Team and to everyone who makes the effort to reduce the overall impact on the environment."

Richard Caseby, managing editor of The Sunday Times, said at the awards ceremony at London's South Bank: "The top 50 companies in this survey are all pioneers - enterprising, enlightened and fizzing with new ideas. All have a common sense of purpose about their corporate social responsibility.

"This is the first environmental award that has both a robust methodology to measure environmental performance and a survey of each company's staff to find out whether the green sheen is more than skin-deep.

"The survey approach also allowed us to evaluate whether each organisations green ambitions had been translated into a committed workforce, aware of and participative in improvement plans. The Port of Dover has proved itself to be among the best."
