Cash Boost For Groups In Kent Coalfield Areas

Friday, 4 April 2008
A key funding initiative has allocated £300,000 to assist community groups in the former coalfield areas of Kent over the next three years. Local voluntary and community organisations are being invited to apply for grants.

Bridging The Gap is a Coalfield Regeneration Trust funding initiative administered in partnership with the Community Development Team at Dover District Council. It offers funding between £500 and £10,000 to local groups and organisations looking to expand, improve or offer new services to residents of the Kent Coalfield Area. Bridging The Gap has previously funded a wide range of projects including a Get On Line Computer Club, arts festivals, Motorbike Survival, refurbishment of community buildings, printing of village magazines and wet weather training jackets for a football club, amongst others.

The application process is straightforward and fast with advice and assistance readily available.

This exciting news follows a recent grant awards celebration at Deal Welfare Club where 22 community and voluntary groups that have benefited from a total of £94,541 over the past year were invited for a special awards event.

Coalfield Regeneration Trust Chair Peter McNestry said: "We are looking forward to continuing our work in the Kent coalfields. We have achieved a great deal so far but realise there is still a big job to be done."

Councillor Mrs Sue Nicholas, DDC Cabinet Member for Housing and Community said: "Dover District Council, in partnership with the Coalfield Regeneration Trust, is working hard to assist the voluntary and community sector in the Kent Coalfield Area. We are eager to hear from any voluntary or community organisation or group that has a small project that we could help fund."
