Woman Crushed To Death At Port

Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman was crushed under the wheels of a lorry at the Port of Dover.

The incident happened at 6.40 pm on Tuesday evening (1 May) opposite berth 6 at the Eastern Docks as lorries were moving forward to board a ferry.

A 40-year-old woman was found under the rear trailer of a lorry having suffered crush injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman was the driver of a van which was parked in one of the vehicle lanes waiting to board a ferry.

She is due to be formally identified today and is believed to be from the Dover area.

An investigation is underway and anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 01622 798538.
