Recycling Service Continues To Expand

Monday, 12 March 2007
A black box bonanza is set to sweep Dover district as the popular recycling service continues to expand - with the introduction of a new vehicle in April that will mean the scheme will be getting close to providing collections to every household in the district.

The new vehicle will help Dover District Council's drive to help and encourage everyone across the area to recycle. This follows recent news of a major expansion of an additional 7,000 households to cover around 80% of homes in the district. The black box scheme provides kerbside collections of paper, glass and jars and cans.

Dover District Council's recycling figures are currently more than 19%, which is exceeding Government targets for the year-end this March of 18%. As spring gets underway, residents are also reminded that the Green Waste Collection Scheme has not changed and is still operating. Green Waste Collections are currently available to 20,000 properties in the District and the service collects a range of garden waste including grass cuttings, leaves, weeds, dead flowers and plants.

Cllr Nicholas Kenton, DDC Cabinet Member for Environment said: "This is great news for the district and for the environment. Dover District Council is working hard to encourage everyone in the district to recycle and this will help householders across the area to recycle and protect our environment for the future. We thank everyone for their support and remind everyone that the message is to keep recycling."
