Man Charged With Drug Smuggling At Dover Docks

HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) officers at Dover's Eastern Docks seized approximately 40 kilos of cocaine with an estimated street value of £1,960,000 from a vehicle on 14 June 2007.

Mark Anthony Brian Bunton, 51, a garage owner of 90 Caxton Road, Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire appeared at Dover Magistrates Court this morning (15 June 2007) charged with the illegal importation of cocaine. Bunton withheld his plea and was remanded in custody to reappear at Dover Magistrates on 21 June 2007.

David Gostelow, Media Relations Manager for HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) said: "We have succeeded through hard work, improved intelligence gathering and the ability of our team of expert officers to disrupt this latest attempt to bring Class A drugs into the area. This is a serious offence which has a significant and damaging affect on all our communities. We will do everything in our power to disrupt those smuggling drugs into the UK and hope this send a clear message that our approach is one of zero tolerance."
