Leading The Way On 3 May - Dover District Council Selected For Exciting Pilot Scheme

Monday, 29 January 2007
Dover District Council is welcoming major news today that it has been selected to lead the way as one of the 13 Local Authorities running Government pilot schemes in the forthcoming Local Government elections. Dover District Council will be one of the first authorities to use the latest electronic scanning technology to count ballot papers.

The electoral modernisation pilot schemes will use innovations designed to improve participation and access to elections, enhance security and improve the efficiency and cost effectiveness of election processes. Each pilot will be fully evaluated by the independent Electoral Commission, which will publish its findings. The pilot schemes will be delivered and managed by the Local Authority Returning Officers.

Nadeem Aziz, DDC Returning Officer said: "We are delighted to be selected to be involved in this exciting pilot scheme. We are working hard to provide modern customer-focused services for local people and the scheme is designed to help us carry out an even more efficient and effective count for the local elections."
