Getting Set For Olympics 2012

Tuesday, 22 May 2007
A golden opportunity for the area was welcomed when representatives from Dover District Council joined 200 guests, including Dame Kelly Holmes and young sports stars of the future, for the launch of the Kent Strategy for the 2012 Games. The strategy, launched at the Paddock Wood Hop Farm on 14 May, outlines the vast range of opportunities available and how Kent can benefit long into the future from the Olympics and Paralympics.

Cllr Mrs Sue Nicholas, DDC Cabinet Member for Community, said: "The Games will bring a wealth of opportunities for businesses, tourism and the local community. People from all over the world will be drawn to the Games and will have the chance to visit the district, and we are also looking at local venues that could be used as pre-training camps. When the Games came to London in 1948, the Olympic torch passed through Dover. We are pleased to support the Kent Strategy and to start to work with partners in the community to make the most of the golden opportunities the Games present."
