Don't Lose Your Right To Vote

Monday, 22 October 2007
Don't lose your right to vote - that's the message as reminders are sent out across the district to those who have so far failed to respond to their electoral registration forms. A response has to be received so that people are included on the electoral register and are able to vote in forthcoming elections.

All British, Commonwealth, Irish and European Union Citizens over the age of 16 are required to give their names and addresses so that they can be included on the register, which will be published on 1 December 2007. Failure to do so could result in a fine of up to £1,000.

This year, residents can use the new freephone and internet registration service, which allows you to confirm all your household's details in a matter of minutes. The system can be used where the electoral register details have not changed and it's available 24 hours a day, seven days a week throughout the registration period. So far nearly 6,000 households have used this method to register.

For more information or enquiries about the Register of Electors form, please contact the Electoral Services Helpline on (01304) 872344.
