Conservatives Take Control Of Dover District Council

The Conservatives have taken control of Dover District Council with a majority of 11 seats. They now have 28 councillors, with Labour on 15 and the Liberal Democrats having two.

Former Dover Mayor Ken Tranter and Labour leader Peter Wells were among those who lost their seats.

Conservative Leader Paul Watkins paid tribute to Mr Wells saying he had worked behind the scenes in a very responsible manner for the benefit of the residents of the district.

In the parish elections, Dover Town Council is now made up of 11 Labour councillors, 6 Dover Alliance and one Conservative. Ken Tranter and Vic Matcham, who were standing as Independents, lost their seats. New councillors include Neil Rix, Anne Smith and Sheila Amos.

Dover Town Council Results:

Buckland Ward: Elected - Jan Tranter (Lab) 700, Neil Rix (Alliance) 638, David Lloyd (Alliance) 631, Anne Smith (Lab) 607. Not elected - Mick Smith (Lab) 601, Ken Tranter (Ind) 456, Mel Clements (Lab) 415.

Castle Ward: No Contest. Elected - Roger Frayne (Cons), David Hannent (Alliance).

Priory Ward: Elected - Sheila Amos (Lab) 453, Bobby Royston (Lab) 405, Pam Brivio (Lab) 396, Jenny Morgan (Alliance) 375. Not elected - Carol Lloyd (Alliance) 367, Graham Wanstall (Alliance) 364, Vic Matcham (Ind) 332.

St Radigund's Ward: Elected - Susan Jones (Lab) 476, Diane Smallwood (Lab) 473, Paul Verrill (Alliance) 432. Not elected - Viv Revell (Lab) 431.

Tower Hamlets Ward: No Contest. Elected - Bob Markham (Lab), Ronnie Philpott (Lab), Lyn Young (Lab).

Town and Pier Ward: Elected - Gordon Cowan (Lab) 264, Chris Precious (Alliance) 208. Not elected - Stewart Dimmock (New Party) 139, Steve Thompson (Cons) 133, Richard Pimblett (Alliance) 132.
