Local Men Included In New Year's Honours

Saturday, 30 December 2006
Three people with local connections have been included in the New Year's Honours, announced today.

The man who has overseen the re-organisation of health services in East Kent, David Astley, has been awarded the OBE. He has been Chief Executive of the East Kent Hospitals NHS Trust for the past nine years, spearheading the formation of the trust from the previous three trusts, in Canterbury, Ashford and Thanet, changing the accident and emergency facilities across the area, and overseeing the withdrawal of several services from Buckland Hospital in Dover. He has now been appointed Chief Executive of the St George's Healthcare NHS Trust.

Former senior Dover detective Brian Flood has been awarded the MBE for his services to the police, and HM Revenue and Customs project manager Malcolm Preece also receives the MBE.
