Christmas Taxis Safety Advice

Monday, 11 December 2006
Dover District Council and Kent Police have issued guidance to the public on staying safe over the Christmas period.

DDC Licensing Manager Tony Bartlett said: "We are fortunate that we do not have a problem with unlicensed taxis in the Dover District. Nonetheless, we are keen to ensure that people are able to enjoy the festivities without being the victim of what are extremely rare crimes. Some people drink more over the Christmas festivities than throughout the rest of the year and as a result become more vulnerable."

Top taxi tips are:

- Always use a reliable firm and stick with them
- Make sure the driver has an identification badge
- Make sure someone knows where you are going and what time you expect to be home and if your plans change tell them
- Make sure your mobile is charged and you have credit
- Pre-book your taxi and before getting in ask the driver who he has come for
- Sit behind the driver
