I would love to to know how much this by-election is costing the council tax payer and then see the number of people that bothered to vote. I feel sorry for the staff at the polling station/s who must be bored out of their minds by now.

Not sure many have mains electricity in Aylesham. Most unable to access InterWeb as still using coal fired computers driven by the the tonnes of free NCB coal which they have been storing in their baths. Video here:-

The price of democracy.

In comparison to a sardine-powered Capt Haddock, that's pretty cutting edge...

We all know he didn't, a Keith Sansum wrote to the local press repeatedly about all women shortlists.
The subtlety of the question was, unsurprisingly, lost on you.

No Reg just over 18%.Just under 4,000 voters .Disgrace to democracy. What an expensive do that was People moan about councils etc but when they have an opportunity to make a difference they prefer not to vote. With postal votes etc you cannot blame the weather on a low turn out.
When you get elected with such a poor result you can hardly feel the people are behind you.Im sure the candidates were ok but.

One of the spoiled ballot papers was due to voting for both candidates, I suppose he/she didn't want to upset anybody.

For once I agree with Mrs Nicholas but there is a reason for low turnout, the majority simply aren't interested in local politics.
In Dover District there are scores of Councillors, ask the man in the street what they do and you'll get a shrug of the shoulders. The majority of Councillors that post on here confirm the public's view:
WHAT IS THE POINT OF THESE PEOPLE?

I suspect Gordan is shallow enough to take as a ringing endorsement of his candidature

Don't shoot me down David it is Christmas after all.I still get people asking me why did I retire and this is no disrespect to the two Councillors who represent River with Alkham. You either love the job and work tirelesly or just sit back and are used as voting fodder.I loved working with Gordon always good for a laugh.I loved it when he and Cllr Watkins had a spat.He always paid great respect to the Chairman.

I'm not shooting you down at all, the facts are there for all to see.
There are too many Councillors doing very little, we simply don't need them.

The labour party rolled out the full party machines to get this vote.
283 460 they should be very concerned in a place like Aylesham that the conservative vote came this close with no campaigning.

I think the Labour Party are oblivious to the mood of the country and the hammering they are going to get at the next General Election.

If he gets what he wants he'd better start drafting his resignation speech!
