Is it me, or did yesterday feel like a very significant day? Having watched all four hours of Johnson's appearance before the committee, it's clear to me he's done. They'll find him guilty but I don't think it matters - he looked like yesterday's man and his arguments ridiculous. At the same time, the Johnson rebellion on the Windsor Framework didn't happen - just 22 voted against. The ERG has collapsed.
For Starmer, so far, he's only really offered competent government - and that's been enough. However, now that Sunak has shaken off the lunatics - he's going to do likewise and the gap will close. Starmer now needs to deliver a vision - which I am sure he will do. Interesting year ahaed.

There's definitely a wind of change blowing. Whilst this morning's Telegraph was thundering about besieged Boris, further down the page the associate political editor was allowed to opine “the cults of Boris and Brexit are simultaneously imploding”.
Even his closest friends are having second thoughts.

Starmer and competent Neil ?
Starmer has divided a party that should have been romping home.
It's so far to the right
Conservatives in Leicester are quite able to defect to right wing labour .
Anyway bk on the post
Boris still believes he did nothing wrong !!!!!!
Still felt there were no parties!
Still felt , even though fined for breaking rules
That he didn't !
My mum died through the pandemic, where it was difficult to visit during covid , and only called and allowed into hospital where it was her last breaths .
All this whilst he, as PM partied .
Although he should get done ,
Like others I will have a long memory of what was taken away from me ,and how he acted .

Why is there never a 'vote-winning political giant' around when you want one?

Worrying thing now is , some leading Boris supporters have broken away , and questioning direction Sunak is heading , which must be of concern to even more division within the Tory party .

Indeed we have. According to the Home Secretary:
"Brexit enables a high-skilled, high wage economy to be built" and
"There is no good reason why we can't train up enough HGV drivers, butchers or fruit pickers."
So I assume it follows that, once you've completed the necessary training course(s) and become a highly-skilled fruit picking operative, you too can expect high wages.

I get the theory. Train enough Brits to do unfilled jobs and you won't need as much migration. But if those people don't exist, what then? That's where we are right now.

Is there a way back for the Tories ?
Will Sunak lose face at the general election when he's unable to forfill his last of his five point plan on boat people ?
Will Starmer help Sunak stay in office ?

We live in somewhat interesting times. Clearly Sunak will not get rid of Suella despite her panderings to the swivel-eyed loons on the extreme right. He's dragged BadEnoch into a rough time with the Brexit obsessed nutters like Bill Cash and co over the EU law reform act.
Suella wants to be next Tory leader. That's obvious and presumably appeals to the extreme right minority. But does she cut any ice with the rabid Johnsonites like mad Nad?
Were Sunak to win the next election, he would have the authority and kudos to get rid of the Braverman nutters for a political generation. That's the last thing the delightful Suella wants. What is her plan?

The problem the Tories have, and in my view it's existential, is that they offer nothing for younger voters. They're not growing their voter pool because it's all about "I'm alright, Jack". The whole voter ID thing, despite not appearing to work, was designed to limited the vote of younger voters. When you're essentially scared of the future, you're finished anyway.

And in the meantime the Cap'n will be gawping in awe at the NatC conference.

They've run out of road. All of that NatC stuff is singing to the choir - not going to win you elections. If anything, it shows a party resigned to defeat and the battle for the future. Indeed, you may well be right that half the party would prefer to lose the election than Sunak win it.
