Not much time to select one, I believe it has to be done by Thursday. With new town councillors since last week we don't know what their thinking will be. I hope there is some positive discrimination and a chap is made Mayor for a change. Maybe Gordon Cowan after his disappointment at losing his District Council seat?

Here in Deal regardless of who will be Mayor it will be an improvement on last years selection of dismal deryk murray so we are on a winner. Marlene made a good Mayoress of Deal (despite shenanigans) she did good promoting the town in other ways and fundraising about £5,000 for local charities. I dont think dismal reaised a bean or a smile.I am pleased the 4 jollies a year enjoyed by Deal town Councillors will cease. give more time to the town. I think some of the previous town Councillors thought they were cabinet ministers.

Party politics dominates both Town Councils, with Dover we have 6 Reds and 4 Blues with 4 Independents. It has been suggested to me that the 8 non Reds will get together to vote one of their own as Mayor. Sounds logical to me.

In the line up we have at present, I would hazard a guess someone who has wanted Mayor for the last eight years and likes a plate of biscuits, not one of the blues or indies will back a red

Are the two of you thinking of a scruffy haired person who as rumour has it wants to be Mayor.
I simply want someone who has the town's well being and image as the most important factor regardless of the party they represent, It would be nice to see a fresh face instead of the usual ones however good they have been in the past.

The word is that Sir Chris Precious has been annointed Mayor after a late switch from Lord Wallace of Maxton.

Both are true - Chris for Mayor and Neil for Deputy.
The proceedings went very smoothly. Much talk was made of working together, so hope that comes about.

One John Golder was four times Mayor of Dover in the 1600s.
I descend from the Golder family through my Grandmother.

You'd better put yourself up for election then Alexander and tell everyone why you should be Mayor - you've got 4 years to build your case.

Up until an hour before Peter Wallace was to be Mayor with Miriam wood as his deputy, one has to wonder what deals were done to change that.

A move away from party politics at town level can only be a good thing.

Isn't going to happen though as evidenced by both votes being 8 - 6 yesterday. expect that pattern to be repeated over the next 4 years.

Let us hope that the DTC will improve now there are new faces and one party no longer has outright control.

Sorry to sound pessimistic but I think things will actually get worse. In my ward the 4 elected/co-opted stood under party colours which doesn't augur well. One simple challenge would be to find use for the Pencester bandstand every Saturday and Sunday
during the summer months.A few timid attempts have been made by various Town Councillors over the years but the public don't know about them in advance. Another challenge would be to get a proper website so people know what's going on.

I'm saddened to read that Howard; what makes you think things will only get worse ?
Most of the people I spoke to were all in agreement that we should work together for the improvement of Dover - the Town and its people.
There are events committees that can and hopefully will promote the increased use of the Bandstand in Pencester. Also increased awareness of what the TC are doing or organising.
I thought there was a report a number of months ago that the TC were spending around £14,000 on a new website, so should really be the bees-knees for that much.
