What im seeing is the opposite to you bern,
you give our point of view and have clear strong views on the N.H.S. it's also valuable to not only share your view(which is fine) but others also have strong views they may also not be opposed to change and many have said so, but you have decided to not guage these opinions
lifes about learning, and we all make our minds up having heard the arguments.
even on this issue i respect your and others views on this subject
but i also respect alternative views

My views on the NHS have nothing to do with the risk register Keith, which is what this was about.

Correction..........this thread is about the Health Reform Bill.............
The original health reform bill allowed unlimited private work to be done in NHS facilities...............
After the outcry Lansley reduced/changed it to 49% private work to be permitted in NHS facilities...this is still
unacceptable.
We await to see how many amendments have been made to the reform bill.........

Reg - you forget what is important. It is not private or NHS, what is important are patients and that they get the best possible treatment promptly, regardless who provides it, in line with the free at the point of use principal. Nothing else matters.

I think to give this some balance, it's because of the uncertainty of private stuff that makes people uneasy.
interesting today the representative for the GP's reminded us that 90% of those gp's surveyed were opposed to the reforms.

I see so please note everyone....
It is the view of Reg that the institution of the NHS is more important than the quality of care and the treatment that you receive.
Please confirm Reg that this is the official view of the Labour Party as I am sure everyone will want to know, specially those currently being tested and treated for cancer given that the NHS success rates are not as good as those in much of Europe.

No I don't Keith - I do know his strong historical association with that Party and his posts tend to be highly reflective of the left wing of that party.

I am a realist and whilst ideologically find the thought of making profit out of someone's ill health a little unsavoury I do recognise that in the current political and economic climate the only important thing is that the patient is provided the highest quality care as quickly as is appropriate for their needs and at no direct cost to them at the point of delivery. All else frankly is political posturing and navel gazing.

#417, tell that to the drugs companies. And it's not profit from our health, it's profit from our sickness.

Why is profit a dirty word? There are other factors that mitigate, and profit is a way to motivate. You need to know that I do not advocate rampant profiteering, but I don't understand why profit is such a bad thing if the other mitigators are in place.
Reg, it is you who have turned health into a political football by making this thread a labour/tory tirade. There is room for debate and compromise.
