You're living in dream-land Brian.
Israel have opened the borders, albeit in a limited way. Hamas cannot go quiet, even during recent cease-fires, they were firing rockets into Israel.

dream land is in margate not gazza, roger.
the borders need to be fully opened to gut full peace, along with freedom of movement,to trade and rebuild.but not as it is know.

How can Israel trust Hamas when they tunnel underground into Israel territory to blow up their people; the trust needs to be built, so I would imagine it would take a while.

I think that most of the problems are caused by outsiders, Hamas use innocent Palestinians as human shields and many of the ultra conservative elements in Israel are immigrants from places like the old Soviet Union and the United States.
I saw a programme on the box many years ago which showed that ordinary Israelis and Palestinians had no problem rubbing along together, especially farming communities that just wanted to earn a crust.

There's no point in arguing with you Brian.
Israel have stated many times that they (will) only retaliate to Hamas' rockets; they don't start.

Peace will come when Israel abides by the numerous UN resolutions requiring it to retreat behind its 1967 borders.

I don't think that is fully necessary now Peter as agreements have been reached with a number of countries - as in one of my earlier posts.
I do not think that is a likely event anyway; so long as Israel allow cross-border traffic and Hamas behave themselves, they can live in peaceful co-existence.

Roger, agreements have been reached with all those except the peoples who were displaced violently in 1948 and their descendants. It's not for Jordan or Egypt to make peace agreements on behalf of the Palestinians. Israel remains the only democracy on the planet to embrace and practice terrorism as an instrument of policy.

Can't help but agree with you Peter, but how can people not see what is going on ?

Well, I'm sorry but I do disagree.
Israel want to live in peace and security and would not attack neighbouring countries first, only as retaliation.

I tend to agree with Roger on this issue. Whatever the history surrounding this sad situation, I don`t think that the Israelies will ever forget the previous suicide attacks and bombing of their buses, cafes, bars and restaurants etc.
I doubt that they could ever trust Hamas not to revert to type again given the opportunity.
I wonder if our specialist "middle east peace envoy" is aware of the problems in that particular area!?

The Israelis believe that they can only live in peace if their neighbours are bombed into submission on a regular basis. Hateful as Hamas may be, and however vile their tactics, their cause is just although they are stupidly damaging their own interests by their indiscriminate attacks on Israeli settlements.
