MPs passed the minimum wage into law. MPs acquiesced in the imposition of the 48 hour maximum working week by the EU. Let them therefore enjoy a weekly wage of 48 times £6.19 (£297) or £15,450 per annum. Plus reasonable expenses of course. Then, if their constituents rate them as an excellent MP, let them by all means earn a bonus which brings their earnings to £100k. A good MP is worth that. A bad one isn't.

Anyone thinking of giving MPs a wage increase just close your eyes and imagine you are staring straight at the face of Gordon Brown, Tony Blair, John Prescott, Ed Davey, Ed Milliband, Diane Abbott in fact nearly all of them.
Then reconsider the options.

Gentlemen...why so coy?
D Abbott happens to be my MP, and surely is therefore my problem. Is your MP worth the money he gets now, worth more or worth less?

I used to live in your neck of the woods, Tom, but Abbott has proved herself to be an arch hypocrite of the first water in virtually every aspect of her political thinking from expenses to where her family were educated and I note the other day she performed a volte face regarding her feminist credentials.
A waster - "Hello Miss Abbott, you asking for a pay rise eh? Don't slam the door on your way out love".

Not everybody can have the luxury of an MP who shares their ideological view of the world. But we are entitled to an MP who works hard for us. That's all we can ask.

99% of MPs are there to serve their own egos we voters have to hope we get one that occasionally really cares about their constituents needs.

Correct Jan.
I would love to see parliament represented by far more independents, local people working in their constituencies rather than for their party.
