Charlie's newsletter:
https://www.elphicke.com/news/lets-get-brexit-done-and-move-forward.
"We should have left ages ago. At every turn I have voted to leave and make the most of the opportunities that lie ahead for our nation." That's odd; if, for example, I key 'Elphicke' into the 12th March (2nd) meaningful vote -
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-47547887, I get that he voted against.
"...people’s annoyance is increasing daily"; ah, now there I agree, and my TV set is getting increasingly nervous about the brick I seem to have brought into the sitting room. Perhaps I ought to lay down in a dark corner and wait for the excitement of the next US presidential elections.
"[The Remain parties] worry that Leave might win a second time. So they plan to take it off the ballot paper and have remain vs leaving with a deal. They hope this would split the leave vote so that people who want “no deal” will either not vote or vote against, meaning Remain wins." Er, sorry, but you're going to have to run that past me again - or find a dark corner of your own.

Now we move into the election period we look to see where Charlie Is.
If the whip is withdrawn it makes a mockery of taking it saw away in the first place.
If the tory party felt Charlie should go through his trial first,
The calling of an election shouldn't change that.
I have gone into local madia defending Charlie's right to have his voice heard and not proven guilty and have a fair trial
But If those at the top of his party felt strong enough to suspend him because of the pending trial they should stick to their guns.

What about Boris?! Is it too risky for him to stand in Uxbridge?

I realise that, Keith. Just speculating that Boris may have to stand elsewhere...

NB, sometimes what people don't say is much more revealing than what they do say.
'our' Charlie never mentions anything about any forthcoming candidature in the upcoming GE.......

I thought this, Captain. Not a peep.
I see Boris is linked with standing in Norfolk as well now. To be clear with Keith, I am speculating that Boris might just be the Dover and Deal Tory candidate - a long shot, I know, but there is a real chance of him losing Uxbridge, so they might find a safe seat elsewhere!

The Dover Conservatives site also seems silent on the issue of our next MP, whilst including an article from our present one:
http://www.doverconservatives.com. Other than a coffee and a sherry morning, there seems to be little in the way of forthcoming events, so perhaps there won't be a Conservative candidate.
In fact, there's more activity on the DDC site:
https://www.dover.gov.uk/Council--Democracy/Elections/Standing-as-a-Candidate.aspx.

One person who is out of the running to replace Charlie, should he not stand again, is Nigel Farage. Thank goodness for small mercies.

Boris? Dover? The self draining swamp has left plenty of much safer seats which are also much closer to London.

Neil
it really is a big outside bet boris standing here.
The local association probably wouldn't support it
Really its about will the national stand a candidate
Even with all that is going on I still think Charlie would win
Labour will come thousands behind.
only a split by Charlie fighting a tory in the seat could the result be closer

I should think MPs from previous generations must be very grateful their possible minor groping habits were not splashed all over the media. We seem to be so very sensitive about things like this while other minor or even some more serious allegations simply get a slap on the wrist.
Want to get rid of an opponent then find someone to make an allegation, never mind if the accused is likely to be found innocent because mud sticks.

From the same article:
Eljai Morais, the Women’s Equality Party candidate in Dover, said: “A man who is on bail for three charges of sexual assault should not be allowed to stand as a candidate in the general election. It’s as simple as that".
I may be simple, but I can see no reason why not - unless I'm misunderstanding how our judicial system does, and should, work.
