Note to self: please remember the definition of 'Tory rebellion' - promise a seven-course bloat-fest with brandy and cigars, but deliver a regurgitated dog biscuit and contaminated water.

To be fair to Tory MPs (not something that I enjoy saying), the amendment was ruled out of scope (rightly) - yet they still extracted the same commitment from the government anyway, so a victory or sorts.

No victory, but the raising of a large white flag, NM. The government merely committed to allow, 'wherever possible', scrutiny of (but not a vote on) 'significant national measures'. When 'wherever possible' and 'significant' are simply what Hancock decides they are, and when any fool can see that 'national' doesn't mean 'local', the 'scrutiny' here means 'maybe have a look at'. Other than a few honourable exceptions, MPs, in approving renewal, ducked out of basic responsibilities: representation and oversight.
Funny how not so long ago there was a massive song and dance, especially from the 'Left', about prorogation.

Previously when interviewed on TV I have noticed that Hancock is very adept at not answering a simple question by ignoring it or waffling on to such an extent that time runs out.
He is so very irritating, definitely not one of our honest and straightforward MPs.

Even the most diehard commentators are struggling to defend him now. He's petulant, evasive and generally incompetent. If you found him working as assistant manager in your local PC world, you'd probably think 'blimey, he's done well'. As an IT man throughout most of my my working life, I stagger at how we are expected to regard a £10,000,000 track and trace system being dependent on a £129 Excel licence as being a computer glitch.

What was really worrying is that they were clearly using a 17 year old version of Excel given the row and column limits that got mentioned

My son-in-law who is a medical practitioner has sent me this video. It’s a long watch but worthwhile if you have the stamina.

Having just listened to the medical update from the three wise men (sorry one was a woman
), I think we might as well go and top ourselves.
Talk about doom and gloom, they made it sound as if we are virtually back where we started, but at least there are several months of PPE now in stock
..

The difference being Jan the mortality rate is down. We are getting much better at treating those who catch it so little chance of NHS (or crematoria

For the record, the Salisbury NHS adverts quoted are for a Band 7 Lead Chaplain vs a Band 5 Cardiac Rehabilitation Registered Nurse. They also have a vacancy for a Lead Nurse in Ophthalmology Outpatients; this is a Band 7 post and hence attracts the same salary as the Lead Chaplain.

Excellent news. So nevertheless 'our' wonderful NHS (the firth largest employer on the planet!) Is paying more for a Band 7 Chaplain.
Grateful to know the scales of Chaplains even less graded and paid to work in a health system.
For God's sake it's 2020. Give me 'knives' and drugs. It's all there is.

Try
https://www.nhsjobs.com/job_list/Allied_health_professions/s4/Chaplaincy/d510.
You may feel that Fiona Fullerton should get more than Father Mulcahy, but the bottom-line is that all angels need paying. In fact, army chaplains do get paid more, but then they're more fit:
