Stuart sorry Ray - hindsight is easy and no-one other than possibly South Korea took any immediate response to Chinese scientists warnings of the possible outcomes.
Horton wants a platform (because he isnt inside the tent...) which is why he is singling out the UK for his opprobrium rather than all other governments or more importantly WHO.
Of course he is right that we perhaps could/should have listened and acted accordingly but we went with the global consensus at the time and followed the guidance of WHO (at least in part). That is clearly a lesson that must be applied for the next one; because there most certainly will be a next one...
But all that is in the past and the important things are surely to recognise that here in the UK through a variety of agencies and actors we are progressively applying more stringent measures well ahead of other countries relative to the progression of the pandemic and for individuals to act responsibly (dont panic buy, avoid high risk situations/follow social distancing guidelines, self isolate as required based on symptoms etc.)

Ross - Horton is far from alone in his views and I'd welcome your evidence that we went with the global consensus.
And I don't mind what name you chose but please do remember that the anagramised pseudonym was forced upon me for having the temerity to criticise that wonderful charity that is Love Dover.

Better late than never I suppose.
Now get ready for the 100 or so thousand that were infected, when Boris was having delusions of infecting us all, going down and crippling the NHS.
Large burden to carry when you have done what you really didn’t want to happen.
Can’t turn clocks back in these situations you get one chance only you pay heavy for errors of judgement.
Army on two hours standby to build temporary morgues.
You may all take the piss I really don’t care but I have predicted the following days events in advance and I have been spot on.
Wait til the shit hits the fan now from the error and you will see I’m spot on the button.
God bless them all have mercy

I guess this will generate an onslaught of insult then more than anything else
The Chinese have launched an invisible global attack and now all areas are fully infected, health and economic disaster zones, with no realistic possibility of containing the situation for at least a year by which point we may all be dead, the Chinese have roled out their latest figures claiming not a single home transmission not a single infection.
As nobody appears able to rationalise the obvious, what the Chinese have done is impossible without a vaccine. I hope Trump has all nukes pointing in the right direction and ready

Who are China hand in hand with....Russia.
Global pandemic but bizarrely no alarm bells from Russia.
Had everybody watching them for a computer VIRUS when instead here is the real virus. G5=COVID19.
I would start with that as a formula for effective vaccine.

The Black Death failed to wipe us out. Bubonic Plague is far more dangerous than Covid-19.

Anything to back up this assertion that COVID-19 is a bioweapon? I mean, other than that there's an Institute of Virology in Wuhan?

Nobody, to the best of my knowledge has game played this, a worldwide Pandemic, as opposed to biological weapons (same sh1t but more localised)
We are seriously facing societal disruption seen only during wartime without the preceding 'phony war' to give time to plan.
HMG dealing with the big picture. (See Maslow pyramid?) There's an awful lot going on behind the scenes I promise you.
Meanwhile how is this going to effect GCSEs?
(Answer - do f**k off and get a sense of proportion)
Meanwhile I've just had an email from a friend who is both working from home AND whose kids school has closed down.
His daughter has complained that the 'usual' maths teacher doesn't drink wine at lunchtime.
I shall continue to self isolate on my canal boat.

Rumours of hand sanitizer in Oxford! Must press on.

Well I raised the issue of this being an attack first of all so I follow it up.
Wuhan province quarantined but not until virus had spread between 1.6 billion population.
80,000 infections identified stopped removed from the population.
U.K. USA rest of world not able to contain virus at all.
Impossible the Chinese have been able to do what they have just by testing. It not rocket science.
Scientific modelling multi analytical all eventualities concluded Wuhan Province :-
U.K. mild respiratory infection may be fatal to over 70’s. no serious threat.
USA nothing to worry about , it a hoax.
Reason for modelling conclusions so disasterously erroneous ?
A vaccine was maintaining order of Wuhan Province and it was deliberately quarantined as the Chinese knew we would all model response based on Wuhan.
Wuhan was not so much a hoax but was more a deception.
Underestimation = Complacency.
Once virus is in we are had it.
5 communist countries China Japan Korea Belarus Russia, eastern block.
Virus already gave them global financial strategic stronghold.
With no vaccine to tame the virus it mutate again and again to a powerhouse. Europeans and Americas facing annihilation of population but all infrastructure remain intact.
It a brilliant attack.
China no new cases, Korea no problems, Russia silent, Japan olympics will go ahead.
No meltdown no isolation no social distance.
We are under attack make no doubt trump needs to know this now but he a bit busy

Since when has Japan been a communist country?
Laboliques for your information they actually have an Emperor who rules the country, at least get your facts right.

To be politically pedantic, China is more state capitalist. Russia? State assets largely auctioned off in 1991 (and now helping to fund e.g. Chelsea FC, the Independent, and the Tory Party). Belarus? Dictatorship, yes, but state capitalist. Only half of Korea is communist, and that's arguable; the North's more like a theocracy.

"You need right now to test test test nothing else just test, exactly what I said last night, if you do not mass test now you all deserve to die, that is what is going to happen.
It is not rocket science you lot but then I guess it must be"

Labialicks I hope your tin foil hat isnt getting too tight and you arent over heating.
Japan is a democracy and capitalist country, Russia & China may be elective dictatorships but are no longer communist and economically are definitely capitalist. Belarus is a secretive dictatorship as is North Korea.
World stock markets are dominated by the big players namely US/European & Japanese Banks, European & US Fund managers and pension funds not mysterious "communist" agitators.
Coronavirus seems to date to affect human beings irrespective of race, creed, colour, gender etc, It does however seem to disproportionately impact those who are over 70 and/or have pre-existing health conditions - to postulate from this that it is a weapon is a tad preposterous.
I suggest you stop reading Armageddon literature as you may well suffer an aneurysm

Unless I am feeling completely bored and am going stir crazy with my enforced imprisonment, with so much inaccurate rubbish being spouted on this thread I will not bother reading any of it again.

The Lab is right about one thing, though: it isn't rocket science. While I've sure found it helpful for building rockets, it isn't much use in virology, epidemiology, public health funding, economic policy or governance.
