that's the second quip you have missed to day paul.
phil's irony on the deleting members thread was the first, barry above "tattooist" "criminality written all over him".
clever play on words, comes from playing all those parlour games at his country seat.

The White Horse some years ago was for a short time run by me. Although it was never empty of customers the level of expenditure was greater than the income by the time all the bills had been paid. If any of you remember I queried at the time it was due to re-open how viable it would be and that to become viable radical changes would have to be made.
First impressions tell me that the pub was simply not turning over enough money and accordingly the pubco or holding company decided it was more cost effective to close it and perhaps sell the property.
I genuinely believe that without a radical change the pub is a lame duck and will never pay but I shall watch with interest what the future is.

Incidentally as a post script much has been said about the tie and deposits which have to be paid, I can only say that most of it is incorrect.

there is so much wasteland close by, pubs need houses and businesses close by.
having said that i have never run a pub and hope that the "white horse" returns like a phoenix from the ashes and gets by with tourist, channel swimmers and some locals drinking and eating there.

If you listen carefully you can hear the very social fabric of the town, indeed the country, snapping all around you.
An entire culture is in relentless retreat, replaced by a cowering, atomised anomie.
Soon we will all be isolated in our Barrett's boxes in Whitfield's condemned countryside, drinking from wineboxes while we interact virtually with people from the other side of the world instead.
The nearest you will get to a sense of community is a hideous corporate feeding station like The kittiwake.
Come friendly bombs...

From the UKIP Manifesto.
UKIP realises that the local pub is a unique part of the British COMMUNITY, BUT IT IS UNDER SERIOUS THREAT from supermarket price undercutting, brewery company indiffernce and the smoking ban,you can download the full "Pubs &Smoking"policy fron the "Policies"section of
www.ukip.org.

Commenting in a misguidedly negative way, Howard. She should look up what verbose means for a start.

i must admit that i thought that the word just meant "flowery speech" or similar andrew.
having checked it in the dictionary it refers to using unnecessary words as you say.

What? What "disgusiting" speech Melissa? I am entitled to defend myself against an unwarranted personal attack,.
I don't need this. Sorry if I offended anyone by using words of more than one syllable.
llI'll leave you to get on with it.

Thanks Paul - but it should be possible to post an opinion without getting personally attacked, and not even in a justified way.
Let the town carry on being run in its cosy way then, that has served it so
badly.
Anyway this thread is about the white Horse, not me. I am sorry to see it go, not least because I gave Jeanette a hand there in numerous ways.
BTW thanks Howard for the vindication. I won't ask for an apology from the two good ladies in question, but wish them a Happy New Year. Adieu.

Actually Andrew, I took Kath's comment to be light-hearted, as implied by the ! at the end.

I was going to leave a comment but thought it might upset Andrew, which it seems is easily done.
