My guess was based on 1. In post 3394 you implied you had nothing to post so i guessed that you had nipped out with camera 2. In order to get back home to post the Ladywell one up by 3.24 you must have taken the tree by 3pm and 3. The sun is in the SW implying half an hour either side of 3.

i realised your way of thinking peter, perfectly logical.
the answer is almost impossible to get due to the nature of the tree that looks much the same all year round.
it was taken the same day as the ones of the special brew cans on the autumn colours thread, 7th october.
need someone else to put up one now if possible.

It is the North Entrance Road Tunnel. The far section of this bit of bridge was a 'drop bridge' and on the other side of the chicane on the island (tennaile) is a proper drawbridge and into the tunnel itself. It is one way traffic with wooden block floor with a footpath along it. Off the sides are gunrooms that cover the ditches, guardroom and three huge water tanks !
It is somewhere WHPS would like to open up in the future

During school holidays and Saturday mornings in the early 50's I would ride "shotgun" in the family baker's van delivering bread. That tunnel was on our route.
We took on a new van driver who regularly got lost. As an 8 year old I had a day off school to show him the route!

fascinating stuff, i hear so many people tell me how they used to play in that and other dangerous areas when they were kids in the 60' and 70's.
would be great to see it opened up again but will be a massive task involving a lot of physical labour and finance from somewhere.
