Was looking OK last time I was there. Yes, there's a certain amount of 'churn' as you would expect
e.g. Henri LLoyd out. Waggamamma in.
We have to realise that the whole model of retail is changing as we move from bricks to clicks.
The next move is to do away with the stockroom. You go to shop and try on jacket. You pay and Mr Amazon delivers next day from central warehouse. Saves having loads of stock covering every size and colour at every store in country.

I heard the same as Brian a while back, even the most successful high streets and shopping centres are suffering from online shopping, Macarthur Glen are as susceptible as any others although I cannot find any hard evidence of them being in trouble at all.

I think the fact that Macarthur glen is expanding its site would suggest it is doing just fine.

I suppose most of it comes from the same people who put rubbish out about us keeping the Prince of Wales pier.

The Factory outlet was to be built at Whitfield.I was on the Planning Committee which voted for it ,then it went to Full Council, where the original decision was overturned. The Labour members who voted for it left the Council soon after.I voted for the outlet to go to Whitfield.

Vic the outlet centre in Ashford is more than 20 times the size of the old MFI site. I'm sure you must be mixing up two different applications.

These are the
Western Dock plans, there's no pier left except the very end which will have no public access.
They are published by the Harbour Board so don't argue that they are wrong.

MR Garstin They wanted to take over the car park ,I do not know what the council voted for at that time all I know is that the company did not want to any where bar that site .
But it is all in the pass so there is no need to keep on about it the same as the pier,

No. You will not be able to walk on what was the PoW pier which will be part of the port operational area.
Yes. You will be able to stroll along the new marina pier taking advantage of the retail experiences (dread phrase) thereupon and gazing at mine and others yachts!

Howard the Labour group did not want it out of town so when DHB were able to get their application through at great speed for De Bradelie that's what they voted for .Labour were in administration at that time. What ever Vic might say Mcarthy Glenn s application was for Whitfield .I was on the planning committee and it did turn a bit nasty will not comment more only to say three Labour Councillors stood down soon after. Our decision was overturned never known that to happen before and it went to Full Councill and I argued again for it to go to Whitfield however the other three Liberals voted with Labour and the application was turned down.Mcarthur Glenn then went to Ashford.

The link I put up above and the Captain's pic (btw did you know you were mentioned in the yacht club as the answer to one of the questions in the Dover pub quiz league last night!?) is from a press release 9 months ago.
This pic is from the latest promotional video - not many ships, buildings, trees or yachts in the marina but lots of space for parking lorries! Looks more like Dover Western Docks Removal not Renewal.

I suspect that Vic was thinking of Asda at one point planning to go on the old MFI site.

The latest video in 37 confirms what many of us have suspected - there will be no Marina. No Marina means no short but pleasant walks along it.
