This is why the building of needy accommodation suited to the needs of the old and sick needs proper funding without the profiteering of developers,
These basic small bungalows are easy to build and inexpensive if constructed around the support network needed

Not with Income Support. We only get HB & CTB because my wife is on IS.

Keith.
Fat chance of that happening I am afraid.
We wanted our outside ground floor toilet turned into a disabled shower for my wife, some years ago now. I was told they did not have the £30,000+ that it would have cost to build it. I got my own independent quote, which came to £10,000, as per their spec. I had to lose my bath and make do with an upstairs shower.

I have been informed that these under occupancy cuts, only apply to council tenants, at this time.
Could I ask the councillors on this forum if this is true and if it is true then why is it that?

There are some rules I do know that to get a trust house etc you have to be on the council waiting list.

Having simler problems Gary not quite as bad but I'm self emoyed and renting at £640 a month im entitled to absolutely nothing A because I haven't any children and B because I could work more than 16 hours a week. I really don't know how they expect this benefit system to help people 50+K pen pushers don't have a clue about the real world. I don't expect a hand out but a helping hand would be nice it's hard to set up in business with no grants, loans or benefits to help and when some months your lucky to make 100 quid things are ruff

Gary C and others in a similar situation are being seriously affected by these welfare cuts. Stop the benefit cheats by all means, but not at the expense of those who clearly are NOT cheating.
Money (and lots of it) needs to be saved, but there are other sectors of society who should be targetted.

I'm not going into the Labour camp Keith - not at all, not ever, but I most certainly do not agree with what is happening to those who can least afford it.

Keith, it's not just Labour people who have a social conscience, it's just Labour people who wear one on their sleeve.....

Roger.
We all agree about stopping the cheats but this is nothing to do with cheats and quite frankly it never has been in my opinion.
This is about genuine honest people who are an easy target.
We all must understand that savings have to be made, that is a fact.
But why does it always and I mean always, have to be the vulnerable that gets kicked in gonads when they are already the ones that are suffering the most.
All councils have been treated like a cash cow for too many years and this still exists today.
Departments must stop wasting money for fear of losing their budgets; customs and practices that have been dragging down council finances for years, must be stopped.
I don't profess to know all the answers but I do know that sooner or later the worm will turn. If these cuts continue, people will take to the streets and that would be a bloody disaster.

I don't disagree Gary and your comment about Councils being treated like a cash-cow, may have been true, but they are being starved of millions of pounds and serious cuts are necessary and have been made over recent years and will continue to be made until they cannot exist - and then perhaps Reg will get his way and this will result in many more thousands (hundreds across the Country) being made unemployed, but create some savings, but probably only for a short time as Gov'ts will then cut their money even sharper.
The welfare and benefits payments paid out by local authorities gets reimbursed by the Government and it is the Gov't who are making these massive cuts - everywhere and it is the targetting of these people less able to afford it, that is so wrong.

Mr Walkden may have had his eyes opened but he.....and we.....ain`t seen nothing yet,we still have 75 % of the cuts
to hit us....and the vulnerable, disabled and 90 % of us.
Cameron will still look after the rich.......after all he lives and dines with them.....

It isn't a case of having my eyes opened Reg. but I do agree that it is likely to get worse.
We mustn't forget how we had such a massive debt - spend, spend and spend some more by the previous Labour Government.
I know you and others will say that we can't keep saying this as it is nearly two years since the change of Government, but you also go on to say the Coalition are cutting too much too quickly, so it will take even longer to resolve the masive debt issue that Labour created.
I do feel that other sectors need to feel the pinch too, or perhaps more.
