I fear you maybe too late, as my brother in law, who is good freind`s with 2 of those demolition men has informed me that they will be back early in the morning to demolish those last two. I suspect perhaps someone looking in on the forum has brought to the notice of the hiarachy that they may have problems later if they don`t sort them now. Can`t someone climb up them in the morning to protest??? I shall try and be there with my camera tomorrow morning, should get some interesting pictures.

Well Colin I did tell you,it does not cost so much to bring all 3 down at the same time as it would do if they came back, also they know that the public want them to stay up,so before anyone can try to save them, they will be down and that will be the end to it,just likE Brook house years ago, wish they could take down Burlington house like this.

I can't speak for the one with the pyramid at the bottom but the other one is alive and well. Like Burlington House it carries moblie phone aerials and also as I said before FM radio. So, trust me it ain't coming down.

Finally found the bit from the Battle of Britain move from 1969 with the replica masts on the Lydden Spout side of Dover
Been nice knowing you :)
I always thought they were built at the rifle range but that photo looks more like hougham battery.
Do you realise your "ape" is going backwards in your avatar ?

I thought it was on the cliff edge somewhere, but this is on the top of the hill. I wonder if some of the concrete that remains up that way could be a result of this ?
Been nice knowing you :)
I doubt that they needed concrete foundations. I remember my father telling me that they were only small models made to look big by the filming. The "trees" in the field around them are probably just small blackthorn bushes

Thanks, I'll have to wander up there sometime and do a 'now' shot to work out exactly where

Noticed this afternoon that the northern mast now has a plethora of cables attached. No idea what is happening but there seems to much cabling for moving equipment up or down

Oh dear, it does look ominous. Wonder if they are restraining guys to prevent it from falling sideways onto the broadcasting mast when they topple it?
Photos of the last mast at Bawdsey, where all the development of Chain Home took place, being felled a decade ago at:

Thanks Ed.
If the powers that be, held any of these historic structures in any sort of esteem, they wouldn't have just let them rot and rust and then pull them down because they've become dangerous.
Big shame.

This is the classic example which was extremely popular with British Rail and whatever government was in power. Don`t spend any money on it, let it rot, then demolish it because of the dangerous state of it. My hate coming through here for politicians over the years.

Yes that is my worry Ed, it is difficult to work out the position of the wire to know what is happening.
Want to contact someone to find out more but the answer will be the same as before with it being MOD land...
