I unveiled those.I agree they look tacky .An idea of someone’s to spend a grant .I chaired those meetings .People from outside as well as Councillors were on the Committee. It was the same when they had those two swimmers again on the sea front .They are on the end of the Cycle Route

Apropos the Vera Lynn statue, according to the BBC 'The memorial, announced by her family and understood to have support from Dover council, will cost about £1.5m' which seems an absolutely incredible amount when the controversial statue of St Greta of Thunburg (which unlike many statues actually looks like the subject) only cost £24,000?

She was a great help to our army not only singing over here but in france to and in war time which helped keep the spirits up of the troops so she deserves a honour like this which will be on show for a 100years Dover needs more flats like a hole in the head.Family homes yes.Her war time songs will live forever and so they should. And they were hits again only a few years ago. With the money going to good causes .

Nothing to do with statues but, I absolutely agree with Vic. Dover needs family sized houses with gardens there are plenty of flats.

I note the previous posts .This is the realIty.Young people can afford flats, older people look to down size .In River we have some very nice flats .I lived in one for twelve years.I have visited many areas of the District .I wouLd not suggest converting houses into flats but good quality new build flats .A lot of younger people are not interested in Gardens older people find it a chore with aches and pains .Younger people in the Town Centre they will the ones to eat out and visit wine bars .
I feel You can remember people with out statues .

I would prefer a wood was planted to remember Vera Lynn rather than a statue, not many statues erected in the distant past mean much to us in 2021.
In a hundred years time a wood be something to be enjoyed by many rather than the few in the future who might know her name never mind really understand how important she is/was to this older generation.
