i disagree totally about the role of chairman david, they don't just turn up places to be photographed they have to be invited. people want the chairman and town mayor to hand out prizes and give a short speech.
a good example of this was last tuesday with the dover youth theatre production where sue and ronnie philpott were present. the parents of the kids love seeing their children photographed with local dignitaries.

you are unlikely to convince david of his personal slur of SUE

Does Bench Street and the underpass need that much money spent on it?
https://www.dover.gov.uk/News/Press-Releases/2021/Dover-Secures-3.2m-Future-High-Streets-Funding.aspx
Bench Street creative space
At the heart of the latest plans is a £2.9m project to comprehensively redevelop part of Bench Street. Providing a key thoroughfare between the waterfront and town centre, a new creative space will form part of a mixed-use development that will also include seven residential units.
Reimaging the Townwall Street/A20 Subway
A £2.0m reimagining of the subway under the A20 on Townwall Street will encourage greater movement of people between the town centre, waterfront and cruise terminals, and link with the £250m Dover Western Docks redevelopment, including the new marina.
Together with the proposed Creative Centre at Bench Street this will enhance the offer of the lower high street and create a feature for the area.

Does this Bench Street initiative cover that ‘Blot On The Landscape’ on the corner of Townwall? I live in eternal hope!

' reimagining of the subway', 'Creative Centre at Bench Street', 'vibrant mix of retail, leisure and cultural opportunities'!
Who actually writes this rubbish? Does anyone know what any of it means - other than a load of 'consultants' being paid a small fortune for a couple of PowerPoint presentations at Fort Whitfield?
Can't wait to see 'greater movement of people' between a failing retail center and a couple of Portacabins overlooking the unusable new marina. Bound to turn the local economy around.

I know where you are coming from Bob.Consultants paid over the odds .Glossy presentations etc.I always use a quote .”You don’t put clean clothes over dirty underwear “ Tidy the town up sort out the problems less fast food outlets ,cheap tacky goods etc.Congested roads in and out of Dover.More greenery .I wonder how many of our Councillors travel on the buses?.
Yesterday saw a flock of Councillors and Officers climbing the cliff paths in search of the end of the rainbow to place yet another statue .

More millions ££ and more crazy ideas.
Imagine what could have been achieved in Dover with all the money that has been thrown at it if we had an ounce of common sense at Dover District Council.

Indeed and think what it could also be like if we had more than a tiny number of capable and competent councillors or a public that actually did something other than moan

With the recent experience of the parklets and the A256 cycle lane, confidence in KCC/DDC is probably lacking.
Is there any idea of how the money is going to be spent? Perhaps some of the property (Godden's building / The Crypt) of the town side of the underpass have been purchased?

I agree Ross the trouble is that far to many of us moaners who are interested have other commitments or are too old to have the energy to do anything except moan.
As for many of our councillors they seem have no idea what their constituents actually want in the area they are supposed to represent, probably because they are afraid of the old stalwarts who are blindly toeing the party line.

Two small issues
Whilst it's great that our late Howard was on the case so long ago
The market square redevelopment does give an opportunity for the horse trough to be put back in its rightful place , on corner of Elms Vale road/Folkestone Rd before it was wrongly stolen and put in market square .
Secondly an activist sadly no longer with us was campaigning for a mirror at the bottom of the slope at the far end leading to sea front , as she said at the time it would allow allow pedestrians to see speeding cyclists coming down before there's an accident .
Sadly everyone now staying they don't own it so this is ongoing.

On the rare occasions Dovorians are actually consulted their views are ignored. That's why the public moan and are disgruntled from trying to do something.

These projects are all well and good but need ongoing maintenance. For example the wild flower beds on the beach. The underpass could do with a thorough power wash. A lot of locals would be sorry to see the old ships pictures go.

I agree with the above post also Dame VERA LYNN STATUE would be looked after alot better and seen by more members of the public if put with the rest on our sea front ,anywhere on the cliffes it will not +and it could be easy vandalise with out being seen so please put it on the sea front.

I would not call one of those rusty figures an "image" more of a representation as it could be any singer for those not in the know. I assume they are what Sue was referring to.
A nice statue in the Market Square would be much better than those silly and pointless arch things and would be seen by many more people than one isolated on the cliffs.
