Chalk V Cheese. St James site not owned by DDC nor development being built by DDC.

But there's no problem with the land at Whitfield! With that one side of the road and Lidl the other, there's going to be a lot more traffic along there.

Future proof
the ability to add the

Base Scheme + Spa Future Proof
Additional £288,000 excluding VAT
3.
Proceed with the Spa
as part of the
current project
Base Scheme + Spa
Additional £2,394,000 excluding VAT
4.
Proceed as planned, but increase
services capacity

Why do they have a meeting in the middle of the day when many Councillors could be at work?

If you look at the declarations of the councillors involved you will find that only one of them is gainfully employed!

Is the meeting really necessary?
Hasn't the decision already been made, so can't they just rubber stamp it by email?

They need a meeting to discuss when the next meeting is. If they don't attend meetings they have nothing else to do so a meeting justifies their existence.

WADR, Bollocks,
At a recent meeting with the Leisure Advisory Group at which I was present and following his recorded opposition at a recent Full Council Meeting, disgraced Councillor Bob Frost sought, and was given, assurances that any decision will be taken by Full Council.
I believe the whole thing is also up before an 'extra' Sruitiny meeting next Monday.

(Apparently the Labour Party were only in support as the silly buggers thought a 'spa at Whitfield' involved building a downmarket supermarket for poor people.)

Captain I am surprised you let this upset you so.
I'd double check the mins of that meeting if i were you, they may show that you did not hear the things you thought you did.
DDC are at least consistent.
I'm sure that at the extra scrutiny meeting councillors will harrumph, grumble and make minutes that are appropriate.
Then it will have been through the process, allegedly.

You seem to be repeating your self lately especially over the Spa/Spar joke Bob, hopefully not a sign of the onset of dementia. Pray tell what is WADR the word following is fairly well understood.

With all due respect - Repeating joke? Ken Dodd's made a whole career out of that!
Will check on DDC version of truth some other time as running on Blackberry.
Have been taken by carer to Travelodge near Cambridge for 65th b'day treat to spend w/e examining medieval illuminated manuscripts.

Whilst I'd hate any facts to get in the way of a good story, DDC, having spent £25,000 of your money on the ubiquitous consultants are going for option 4 (see post 23).
The 'future proofing' will merely involve making sure that services will be adequate for any extension of the Leisure Centre on what was the area planned for the 'spa' which could involve extra squash courts for example depending on uptake of use of Centre. The figure given of £39,000 is a maximum and the extra money spent is likely to be fairly insignificant compared to build cost.
Officers seem to have difficulty differentiating between metres squared and square metres at last night's meeting which suggested at one point that the original plan for the spa extended to over 0.6 km by 0.6km.
The meeting was also rather amusingly extended by councillors, having decided NOT to go ahead with the spa, asking details of whether the non existent spa would have single sex changing rooms!

Great. So a bit more deprivation in the town centre.
I like to swim but am not prepared to stand around afterwards in winter in the most windswept part of the area waiting for a bus.
This caters to wealthier, car-driving types at the expense of pedestrianised and possibly less well-off residents who probably need exercise more. The sort of people who want a bit of gentle exercise to stay or get fit rather than gym bunnies and self-absorbed narcissists with fake tans posing in lycra honing their physiques while a fitness Nazi barks out the drill over some tinny dance music.
Just about everything DDC does is wrong, usually because it promotes Whitfield over Dover. I wonder how often any of them even visit the town.

Well it's time you stopped whinging & democratically tried to change it then Andrew.
Put your mouth or pen into gear & get elected.
Dover Town centre is neither big enough or geographically laid out to meet your fantasies or provide modern facilities that the public crave.
Romanticise away but hit the reality button now & then.

Paul! You really must not rise to the bait even over personal attacks! The image is now firmly stuck in my mind and I know I'm going to have difficulty sleeping tonight.
