Not for me to precis, but here's what's been did and what's been hid for your perusal.
Try from page 72 onwards

And before anyone says anything, yes, I have read it all, though I had to look up the acronym CHP (combined heat and power - should have worked that out!)

John, as you well know I'm for TOTAL transparency wherever possible.
It is OUR money council's spend and one should be even more careful when spending other people's money than one's own.

The report states that between October 2016 and May 2017 'two rounds of public consultation assumed'.I find this very telling, the 'assumed' part that is.I take it the 'assumption' was that it was to be situated in Whitfield as I don't know anyone locally that has been 'consulted' with regards to the new District Leisure Centres location.

The whole section re: new leisure centre suggests our council have long since decided where it would go and to hell with the cost. Why are the figures regarding our money redacted, perhaps our council "assumes" we don't need to know?

4.4
The current report provides a revised figure with the total cost of the project now estimated at £26.4m. The variation arises from adding more facilities to the corefacility mix, increased parking provision, rise in construction costs due to inflation, aswell as revised costs for land purchase, demolition of the existing centre, Section 106 contributions and capitalisation of internal staff costs.

Decision day tomorrow!
Let's all hope that whatever happens DDC aren't so stupid as to sell the old site restricting its use to that of a Cinema!

Maybe the site will be sold for Social Housing to match the Gateway flats which were built as Social Housing and now desirable residences. That would please our MP as he stated our young people need homes .Trouble is this is a brown field site
not a green one !

On another site preople are. Moaning re decisions are made by people who do not live in Dover Actually there are twelve Councillors who live within Dover.Of course the rest of the Council members thirty three all told are involved as its District Money.Living in River whether the Leisure Centre is Dover or Whitfield same must apply for people who live in Temple Ewell.or Lydden
Always been the same ..I'm sure people who live in Aylesham would like a nice Swimming pool i suppose they go to Canterbury.

Sue,
Whilst mostly funded by 'District money' there should be a 7 figure contribution from Sports England.

Yes I did realise Captain but DDC still need to provide core funding and There are other schemes on the go and we donot want to sell the family silver. Some people say it will attract more visitors well i sat on endless meetings when the White Cliffs experience was discussed and the Big .Screen .The one good thing that was built is The Water Sports Centre and the Musuem had a face lift
we also had the fountain which is coming to the end of its days.
I wonder how many will turn up to hear you Councillors debate it tonight?
Plenty of key board warriors ..Not like the old days when crowds turned up and there were security chaps on the doors.Councillors had to be sharp in those days .
When River rec was under threat the people of River turned up to listen to the debate .

The fountain came to the end of its day last year Sue, I think DDC missed a trick in not going for the 50 metre pool as the nearest one is in London I believe. Clubs would have come from all over Kent and swimming galas would have been held there. Not that it would have benefited the town as not many people would have gone there beforehand or after their swim.

The swimming pool at the leisure centre costs a fortune to maintain, a 50m one would be worse. There is a reason nobody has opened an Olympic size pool this side of London.

Sooner or later Ashford or Canterbury will open a 50m pool and the local clubs like Deal Tri (one of the largest in UK) will switch leaving this an expensive white elephant pushed through to distract people from the problems with DTIZ.

Good news but I will not hold my breath when you consider the St James area is still waiting for building work to start. How about 2026 being more likely as an opening date.
