There is usually the greengrocer's stall, chap who sells plants and a couple of others Brian but not enough to constitute a market. Time will tell if stall holders return in force for the summer.

I think the stalls at the market today are the ones there last summer, excepting for the bread stall(haven't seen them in a while)
Reading earlier comments last time I remember Dover market having 20+stalls was when it was next to the old Sainsbury, was David just exaggerating for comic affect?

You can't have visited the Town Team one in its early days then - very popular with a good number of stalls including a great curry van, but if the customers drift away so will the traders.

There was a West Indian food van but he was charging £8 for jerk chicken so it's no wonder he didn't last.

Because there were 20 + stalls doesn't mean there were 20+ traders, many put two together and by the time they were filled with merchandise it would look like one stall.
I saw that with the West Indian food and just laughed at the prices, there was an excellent food van(forget the chap's name) that did an excellent stew and dumplings during the winter.

They (the Town Team) know what they should do, but they won't.

I need to say whoever done the market needs to go to Belgium France or Germany and see how these are organised and set up. always busy always full and people love it :) ... not everyone get accepted though ... Dover could do so so well and if the market really goes then I shall say clapp yourself on the shoulder and congratulate yourself for this big big failure!!!
DOnt blame the shoppers ... do your resreach first before anything else. Because this is so disorganised ... Sorry I dont leave much positive feedback here but I think it needed to be said. Get someone who is dedicated and ambitious about that project and not to someone who clearly think its a pain in the back...

Sarcasm? Does that actually work when promoting market/town team?

I didn't think the town team were still going, I cannot find a website for them and their Facebook page was last updated 6 months ago so I fail to see how people would know the time and place of meetings.

Heike, why the need to go to Belgium or France? Deal has two markets a week and a monthly farmers market which are all very well run and always full of people.
Dover did have a very good town team but even they couldn't make it work. There are fundamental problems why people don't like shopping in Dover and no one is interested in fixing them and DTIZ will fail dismally because of it.

I also thought the Town Team had finished with the last update being in September and it is never mentioned on this site or others.
Maybe it is the attitude of people like Simon Cowley that puts people off volunteering, it would certainly stop me from volunteering.
Outdoor markets have been tried several times in Dover, for some reason they were never really successful.

Yes, terrible attitude. Known for having no public spirit at all.

Looks like we will never know when and where the meetings take place, must be a reason for it.

Public spirit is no excuse for sarcasm or rudeness.

Simon I love Dover and the People too and I know in Dover golden days Events have been done properly before.. why is this not happening anymore? I am actually really happy about the Dover Music Festival 2nd year running!! Why not pulling all the communities together such as clubs, church and charities?? Great minds working together can achieve alot of wonderful things! If you are honest to yourselfs the communication is of terrible standard. If you need help why not just ask nicely ??
Just saying !!!

As far as I am aware, the time and location of the monthly Town Team public meeting remains unchanged and proceeds quite regularly. I believe it is, as it has been previously, on the first Monday of each month (unless that happens to be a Public Holiday, in which case there is no public meeting that month) at 1730 in the Marina Hotel and Spa.
