The South Shields parliamentary by-election sees over 60% of the electorate boycotting the vote.
Of the less than 40% who voted, just over 50% voted into Parliament Emma Lewell-Buck, the Labour candidate.
Richard Elvin for UKIP came second with just over 24%.
The Conservatives received 11.5%, the LibDems less than 1.5%, down from almost 13% 3 years ago.
BNP achieved twice as many votes as the LibDems. And Howling Lord Hope of the Loony party not far behind the Libs.
The Loony Party seems poised to overtake the LibDems at this rate, while UKIP has more than double the support that the Tory party can boast of.
This is real-time change.
And remember, the majority turned their back on the ballot box!
The Coalition is over - you saw it first here, right

Although parts of what you say is correct, there are some parts that are not,
The lib dems had a disaster, and you can only blame them on the way they acted both before and since the last general election, this will take a lot to climb back from.
Although your now not part of the scene UKIP has so far done well across the country
iv been predicting the co olition falling apart so hardly seen here first.
Please dont though go back to saying how wonderful UKIP are when you couldnt even be bothered to support them

Keith, Parliament is preparing the end of British unity, offering only Austerity to Scotland, knowing that the Scots cannot accept it, while forgetting that the majority of English don't vote either and thereby do not place their trust in those who govern our Country and do not accept what we are being given by Parliament.
Nigel Farage gave a lecturing to the Scots about money-matters, implying he didn't mind if Scotland leaves the Union but was more interested in money, as if money was more important than Union.
But a British party would not do that. Money is a small matter compared to British Union.
Being 100% British, I will always stand up for British Union.
I can't be expected to go against that which I believe in.

Alex's
Ukip supports the union of Briton
But if the Scottish wishes to go it alone after a referendum its up to them, this is democracy.

Keith, Nigel Farage said that if the Scots leave Britain, or the United Kingdom, they should not think the English will say "tally-ho" and give them a pack of money.
He placed the accent on the money, not on the Union of England and Scotland.
He proved that he does not fight for the Union of England and Scotland.
Now go and see the name: United Kingdom Independence Party.
Any bells ringing?

Keith B, and Keith S, UKIP keep placing their hopes on the European Union elections in 2014 to win more votes, they are members of the European parliament, as MEPs.
They are aiming for the GE in 2015.
But they couldn't be bothered if Britain breaks up before either the European elections or the general elections!
So they should then change their name to Englander party, and not stay at "United Kingdom Independence Party".
Because evidently the Union doesn't mean much to them, does it!

Excellent stuff Howard-the battle scenes were great with some marvellous AAARRRRGGHHH s!
Alex-I know we're a motherland- but the term 'Englander' is overtly Germanic- I was mildly amused by your use of it,prompting allusion to my memories of war book coloquialism.

You do get excited Alexander. Do calm down. There is nothing new here, we have seen this kind of thing many times before and will do so again.

Barry W, I won't calm down, but will keep banging on!
I'm here, and I'm here to stay. I've got rights.....
Britain's Unity is threatened, and a number of political party views this side of the Wall, such as that of the Government and of Nigel Farage, give the impression of a non-Unionist approach, implying they don't really care less for Britain and the United Kingdom.
They're retreating into a separation policy of England without Scotland because none of them have anything to offer for Britain. They all bang on about the "need" to have nuclear missile submarines (their Trident project) to blow the world up "if need be", and have made it clear to the Scots that this is the main reason they want to use Scotland.
They have in fact abandoned the Union Flag, they have chosen not to believe in its Christian values of Unity of Britain, but seem to think that spending another 100 billion pounds on nuclear submarines and nuclear missiles is "the thing to do".
Well it isn't!
The majority of people in Britain do not vote in the parliamentary be-elections, an average of 20-30% voted in the County Council elections, and it is most probably likely that my views here are therefore in line with those of the majority of British people.
Prove the opposite, and I would believe you!
Show me a researched poll or referendum stating that the majority of British people want the Union to end, or want the Chancellor and his Austerity, or want nuclear missiles instead of Peace.
Prove to me that the majority of British People VOTE for these politicians and endorse their parties!
Until such time, you are in the minority, and therefore shouldn't be telling me to clam down.
Much to the contrary!
