paul is paying vat on his sandwich, is it hot though - according to the new rules a standard sandwich should not be vatable.

looks to me like another stealth tax is coming in with the proposed minimum price per unit of alcohol.
not seen any actual figures yet, maybe one of our members can advise?
Theresa May was woeful on BBC news this morning. I fully support workable suggestions to reduce binge drinking and drink related crime, but I don't think this is the good plan the politicos want us to think it is! And it runs the risk of appearing to penalise those at "that end of the market" as May kept saying, further reinforcing the obvious, that it leaves the other end untouched - ie the wealthier who buy the expensive stuff won't be taxed, the poor who survive on the cheapo rubbish will be.

Yes Keith, it was. Perhaps you should find out more about the actual budget.
Thanks to this budget the rich will pay much higher taxes and in a way that does less damage to the economy which will help generate more tax revenue.
It is not perfect - he should have been a lot bolder and is still not clamping down enough on that monster of public spending.

have to agree there, there is no sign of growth and nothing to boost employment.
the figures on barry's blog predict a fall in unemployment of 800,000 over the next 5 years, hardly gives anyone any confidence especially after all that talk of the reforms from ian duncan smith.

There are still plenty of legal ways to keep the greedy hands of government off our hard earned income, be reassured of that Keith.
Howard - you are clearly not looking in the right places.
I have to laugh at Reg - talk about inconsistencies. Having a go claiming public spending is out of control while whining away about every cut to public spending just sums it all up. Trying to have it both ways....
I agree, there is still far too much public spending. So what spending will you cut?
