It has to come down to more drastic action.

You need to weed the problems out of the benefit system.
All previous campaigns have failed because they target the easy prey, the real disabled, the real person in need of care and the real person who genuinely wants employment, because they feel embarrassed and uneasy about being on benefits and they are easy targets.
They need to target the real problem within the system, which are Barry's dross because they know the system inside out and know how to play the system.
Some of them and their parents are products of the system and past occurrences and need showing how to fit back into society. Yes, make them work for their keep. Helping our elderly, helping youth and young, with sports or something to help within our communities.
Making these people work as cheap labour will not work. Bring back boot camps, I really believe many would actually benefit and is what is needed for some, but not all.

you have misread my comments in post 30, no cash would be involved.
when people with food vouchers at the check outs of our major supermarkets the staff do not have the time to go through the small print, they are just interested in the value of the vouchers most of the time.
smaller convenience stores and corner shops readily accepted them before as it was the only advantage they had over the big combines.

I think that all unemployed school leavers, if not in education, should have to do some form of work as soon as they leave school to receive their benefit.
We have had a couple of unemployed youngsters at the shop. They turned up late, then they did not turn up for whatever reason. The whole point was they did not want to be there, they wanted to be with their friends lazing around, so any excuse was a good one.-----------------------------------------------------------------------
I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

August, yes, the third month after the change of government, a few weeks after a budget, well before spending cuts and other budgetry changes bite, or even announced.... Thats right, Howard - it is Gordon Brown's fault, the goverment borrowing that month was indeed part of the Brown economic legacy.
Jan - Hard hearted? No just realistic with a desire to better people's lot and that of this country. Ever heard of the saying cruel to be kind, or maybe 'tough love'.
The problems we have today is too much tolerance of what should be regarded as intolerable. We are too soft as a society and the dregs of humanity are always there to take advantage and leech off us. They laugh at us hard working mugs paying taxes while they collect their benefits. Get tough with them, be hard on them, make them get off their fat backsides and pull themselves together then they will achieve self-worth and a better standard of living. Either that or they top themselves high on drugs and if so goodbye to bad rubbish, no loss at all. Heartless me, never, all for the greater good!!!
