jan;
your right im a very level headed guy
in fact over my years i have supported the plight of youngsters to get better facilities, but 3 youngsters carrying planks of wood, hoodies, scarves over faces are the type of youths i wouldn't give to much time to(to be honest)
i just hope they are caught, but if they are and named then hope they keep out of my way.
jacqui;
sorry to hear of the incident near the bull, hope he recovers his memory and gets better soon.
bern;
On this occassion i cannot fault the police, who came quickly, got all the info, took a report(couldnt take a statement as he was underage)but the report has the info they required, and immediatly had police out looking for these 3.
they also followed up by having the police guys who take photos up the next day
so cant fault them on this case.
alexander;
thanks for your kind words my boy now phones when hes on the way home stas in a bit more now, funny thing is he used to stay in a great deal, only in past 8 or 9 months did he get new friends through college and go out more, then this,,,,,,,,,

as a after thought could your boy start self defence lesons,ie,karte,judo or something simler.

Frankly, on a 3:1 level that would hardly make any difference - but a good idea nevertheless if only because it increases self-confidence and "swagger" that often puts potential attackers off. A pity we have to think like that, though.

yes bern,but the boy might have stood a better chance of fending them of.
I agree Brian - anything that makes us more able to look out for ourselves is a good plan.

The Police were out in force last night,Police car parked near Cherry Tree/Barton Road Junction and 2 Policepeople walking down Buckland Avenue at 11.45 pm,never seen that at this time of night.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

From what little I can discover via Google Maps. We are talking about a triangle of streets;London Rd, Bridge St. and Buckland Ave./Barton Rd.
Local knowledge is something each of you has. I know from my own experience of these things that great use is made of pedestrian-only 'rat-runs', both as a means of escape and of concealment. Also groups of this sort must meet-up somewhere and have habits as to where they prefer to do their thing.
If there were reported: sightings, noise, damage etc. A pattern may soon emerge.
While it is certainly best to cater for the young and their energies things of this nature must be nipped in the bud.

Tom, if I see anyone going around with covered faces and brandishing planks of wood, I'll dial 999 immediately.
Hope anyone else does the same too.

Last night my son was on a works birthday party.The lads met up at 6pm played Fifa at the birthday boys home before going to town. As they approached a night club they were set upon........by the police who arrested one of his tech computer nerd colleagues and friend. He was handcuffed and bundled into a meat wagon.The group asked what is was all about,the police said he was on cctv earlier that evening fighting elsewhere in St Helier..They said it must be a case of mistaken identity as he had been with them all night. They refused to listen and regrettably my son who has inherited his Dads sense of fair play if not his diplomacy argued the lads case but as he stands well over 6ft and 16stone he was met with short shrift and told to ''go home''. Which he did.The poor lad spent the night in chokey.
All these lads have good jobs,intelligent (a bit daft at times) don't take drugs and smartly dressed yet the evening was spoiled by officers who failed to listen to reason. No side being taken but I am merely reporting what happened last night.

Part of the function of these kinds of forums is to enable us to share these things. It is a fundamental part of the democratic process. I am sorry to hear about your lads mate, Marek. It will at least be something he can dine out on later on, once he has got over the shock!

Thanks Bern I just feel for his parents with whom he lives.They must have been worried sick. The same bunch of lads have volunteered to work today to reset the computers in the showroom..even though United are playing City at lunchtime. As a treat I did them all bacon sausage and black pudding butties for brekkie at 7am!I don't know about them being daft I certainly must be...

Keith, I am so sorry to hear this shocking news about your son, its absolutely despicable that our youngsters can't walk home safely at night. I have also noticed a lot of very rowdy youths hanging around the town in the late hours, luckily I'm in the car when I see them.
Very pleased to hear that your son is okay and not affected too badly from his encounter with these three thugs.
Jacqui also I'm sorry to hear about the young chap, let us hope that he recovers his memory so that his attackers can be brought to justice.
Marek, sorry to hear about the case of mistaken identity with your sons mates.
I like the sound of your bacon, sausage and black pudding butties (no fried egg?) Mmmm

hard to imagine such behaviour in jersey but i suppose that wherever there are youngsters and night clubs then problems will occur.
having said that the lad nicked must be traumatised.

He was released this morning - no charge.
Howard hardly any unemployment due to lack of benefits so most youths need to safeguard their jobs/careers.
