Absolutely Jan. Especially the sort of thing that involved Charles I and a short walk from a banqueting hall........

Bob Frost,
I have to say I am warming towards you with regards the "royals".

I'm fed up with this already. FOURTEEN pages in The Times this morning! At least it relegated the Chandlers to a single paragraph. I'm amazed that anyone could be so stupid sailing into "troubled waters"".
Can I hibernate?

I find excessive coverage of royal matters somewhat tedious but I am a Royalist nevertheless.
Instead of pathetic carping about them why not just wish them well, as I do.

Im astonished myself at the amount of coverage. I thought an announcement would be made and that would be that, but no the 24 hour news channels seized onto it like it was the greatest story since the arrival of the sliced loaf. I just didnt think weddings captured the imagination of the public in this way anymore but both sky and BBC are flogging it for all its worth.
Even every politician that can muster a soundbite is in on the act....
"its going to be a great day for this country" says Mr Cameron with a gleeful joyous expression on his chops while chattering away with the media from the steps of Downing St.

I agree with Terry; great news, but that's it. Taking up so much TV and radio time/newspaper space etc., is a waste of time.
We now know they're getting married and yes they will be the future King and Queen (and I'm a supporter of the Monarchy), but for goodness sake.

Barry, you obviously don't mind the news being full of speculation and guesswork concerning the couple while real news is cutailed or neglected. Too much hype that is what the majority of us are "carping" about.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

Isn't the phrase " a good day to bury bad news"........?
It was impossible to get away from it on the news channels yesterday, and if it is carping I am happy to join in. Wish them well, yes - as I would with any couple getting married. But that's it!! Being descended from happily inter-bred couples drawn from European inter-bred families does not make them special to me and my happily gene-wide family.

Jan - I am bored by it, as I said, but some people on here do go on to use it as an excuse for digs at the royals...

In Australia, they say that they won't accept another one of 'em.

It also appears that New Zealand and Canada will follow Australia's foot-steps.
