Unfortunately as a Guston resident I can firmly agree with the comments made by Arthur and Andy. Residents here in our parish are sick to death of being forced to accept the planning decisions by central government (IBF) KCC (Dover Fastrack) and DDC (monstrosity of new builds that are being chucked together on The Officers Mess site). All of these planning decisions have not taken a true democratic process into account. We are now faced with an added burden of a crematorium when the road infrastructure on A2, Whitfield roundabout and DofE roundabout cannot cope on a normal working day, add to that an IBF, Connaught Barracks development, Fast track which is meant to be a green initiative oh but we forgot to mention HGVs will be using the new road for access/exit and we have a whole wave of additional traffic on these already stretched roads. It’s a joke. So no mention of a crematorium in the recent local plan, but DDC have met with architects to look at a possible design, the land in Pineham was purchased and sealed in Nov 21 and a decision is yet to be made- yeah ok, DDC just let us residents know once the deal has been sealed and you can then offer a tick box exercise of a consultation that is completely meaningless . Oh and to top it off this site would further destroy the North Downs Way!

Where councils are concerned there is virtually no democracy.
We the local residents in addition to the above mentioned by Robert were not actually consulted about any of the following.
The new Market Square design.
The stupid now removed bus and cycle lane.
Those ugly seats that have also now gone.

To be fair to the Town team they did hold a series of consultations regarding the market square design.

Also, the 'stupid bus and cycle lane' was the result of the government's 'green' push: it simply dangled a time-limited bag marked '£££' which no council would refuse, then dangled another '£££' bag which could only be collected when the contents of the first one had been spent.

Reginald has it right. The Genesis of the Market Sq scheme is predominantly Town Team work endorsed by Town Council staff & members who were heavily involved with Team . The Government grant scheme had to be a TownTeam initiative. The final outcome had to meet heavy requirements from KCC Highways etc.

To be fair

the Town team is not the council and regarding the bus lane fiasco did our beloved council point out how daft the idea was to make a narrow very busy main road even narrower.
Never mind in all cases it is our hard earned taxes that pay or should I say wasted instead of going on ideas that would benefit the whole community.
Sorry with a good personal reason I am feeling p***ed off today so I doubt anything would be ok, I hope more coffee later will help.

Try FM Conway. Can't think of anyone else in favour.

Whoever is responsible for the market square, town team, KCC etc the social media accounts of Dover District Council are spinning it as their baby.
As far as consultation, I seem to remember there was basically two proposals and both were rejected by respondents. As with all these disastrous projects DDC are keen to take credit of investment and then rebuke any responsibility when it all goes wrong.
I can still remember the pictures DDC posted on social media with a marina full of luxurious yachts, posh restaurants and boutiques and the red arrows flying over the western heights war memorial and a cable car to the castle. All produced by consultancy firms paid for by our taxes to DDC.

I can't speak for Guston as I do not live there, (Arthur do you have a view?) but I would guess having that there might be welcomed to try and avoid them being out of power for days?
Plus, and I'm not trying to be funny, but I assume that it doesn't have the throughput of a Crematorium from a infrastructure point of view?

Despite some trying to keep to thread topic, can I just check, is this forum about developments at Guston or Market Sq?
Maybe it's my eyesight but "Proposed new Dover Crematorium" and "Market Square" do look different to me?

Residents of both Guston and East Langdon plus both PCs were contacted last year with regard to this proposal. Greentech were responsible for the current Guston solar park and have been considerate and respectful to the views of residents and listened to concerns. The construction phase was well managed with very little disruption to the life of the village. They are currently in the process of delivering presentations to Guston, Langdon and St Margaret’s PCs. There will also be public presentations/displays before any planning application is submitted. I had a leaflet today and Guston residents were able to view this proposal on the Guston PC website last year.
There has been no hidden agenda, as a resident of East Langdon I feel that I have been kept appraised of this proposal via the Langdon newsletter and Greentech communication.
The current solar park is unobtrusive and benign, it has been well managed. Personally I would have no problem with this, much better than a bus road that no one seems to want!

Back on topic.
With roughly 1,200 deaths a year in Dover District surely a crematorium could turn out to be what Arthur Daley would describe as a 'nice little burner'?

Apparently Barham is at capacity? Evidently Dover have been looking for a new cemetery site since the report published in 2010 however no one has as yet been fully appraised of any further details. The site at Pineham/Guston would be for a crematorium not a cemetery. Guston PC has it on their agenda for discussion on Monday 7th March. PC will ask questions of DDC Cllr Richardson.
