to be fair, your comments from time to time
that posters dont understand, or such like comments may well go some way to stop people posting or even become more negative, so not sure you should be the to be critical of others

a bit heavy handed there barry, premises in deal in general are better presented than in dover.
i doubt that anyone would disagree with that point though you mention some notable exceptions, surely any advice dispensed should include stressing the importance of presentation to the public.

I was referring to the sport of knocking Dover businesses Keith - nothing to do with understanding, do read what is said instead of making up your own version yet again.
Howard - I am sure everyone in business owner knows the importance of presentation.

barryw;
you will find(presuming you read your own postings) that you often tell people they dont understand if they dont agree with your viewpoint

Can I suggest that you take some of your own advice? You instructed Keith to 'read what is said instead of making up your own version yet again' but managed to do just that yourself.
Constructive dialogue is usually the best way forward so, with the benefit of all your expertise have you any suggestions for turning Dover into an attractive tourist and shopping destination as Deal is becoming?

Keith, and you keep on whinging like a big girls blouse - all to our own...
Oh really Mark, I think not. As for you question, lots, many ideas have come forward that I support from the cable car to the marina scheme and associated regeneration but the resources to get things done is the problem. The PPT if successful should provide the seedcorn investment needed so Dover can finally take its own future more into it own hands.

i have tried to refrain from judging you,
but your name calling on myself and mark does you no justice at all.
Although i always respect peoples right to post, many don't post, or reply to owt you post because of your continued attacks and gripes just because the poster may not agree with you.
whilst your probably happy with that, and in your mind they are all left wing loony socialists, if you look a little closer, you will find some of your more right wing friends wont reply either fed up with your continued lack of seeing both sides, or even having a belief that everyone has differing views.
still thats the barryw we know i suppse

do we have to wait for PPT and all the other big schemes before anything will change? The flags that David H encouraged in Castle Street look good and I assume the flowers are a Castle Street residents/business venture all helping make it look distinctive, welcoming and cared for. Not massive investments but a community effort to make a difference - and it does. Imagine the same in Market Square ......

If the PPT is successful, I cannot see any changes happening for the good of Dover/Deal for many years or ever. They will get the same scraps thrown at them that have been thrown at them for many years.
The only difference will be that DHB does not have to come up with any excuses because of trust rules, the PPT would.

I think it is time some on this thread grew up and stop making personal remarks about other posters just because they do not agree with posts

There are so many things that could and should be done to help Dover move forward and I have said so many times.
I started them at Dover Chamber of Commerce, but was cut short so could not complete them.
Nothing, absolutely nothing, has been done to follow any of this up - no help for the Town and no help for the businesses; in fact, as far as I am aware, no new members for the Chamber of Commerce either and a complete balls of the market even though the Chief Exec of the Dover Chamber, at a Mayor's business meeting early in the year, said it was to be revampled in May.
I have given a Board member of DCOC information on how the Market can be transformed - I really hope they take this up.

roger, the saterday market has proved to be a red herring hasnt it.i remember a few years ago [quite a few actuly] there was an indoor market where the museam is now open 6 days week and well used market it was to.since its colsure when it made way for the so called white elephant [white cliffs experiance],we have had a number of outdoor markets at various parts of dover, jewsons yard [pre jewsons] dikie dirts wharehouse [the empty building next to the tax office] and now in the market square.all though the the markets had some publisty they went boobs up within 6 weeks of opening, this i beliuve is due to apathy of the local town people, the coc and other factors.

Roger - your knowledge in post #93 is out of date and some facts are wrong.
I am not going into details on this but we have made a lot of changes even within the last couple of months.
Incidentally - I agree the market is not working well and is a problem that must be resolved in some way.

not working well?
the market is a non event now, just the fruit and veg stall a fast food van and one or two stoical traders.
all it does now is make the market square area look untidy, best to give up on it.

Why not open the market to Boot fairers? They always attract people looking for a bargain. £10 a pitch.

doubt that would work, the nearest one at folkestone only had about 8 pitches last time i went.
i think there are now well established ones that people stick to.
