I would guess or should that be hope that these Parish Constables would patrol a set area much the same as the policeman on the beat used to do before they all started driving around in cars.
I see this candidate is an ex-policeman so at least he should know how things work. I am just glad the present incumbent is not standing again.

I have my polling card on the mantlepiece but like last time will probably not be used. The comments from Mr Bolton are the first I have heard from any of the candidates and I don't who the others are. Quite frankly I don't understand what the job entails and how it helps policing.

This Bolton chap certainly has an impressive looking CV.

Just another job title to make someone full of p*** and importance.I begrudge having to pay extra on my council tax bill to keep someone like this in employment and in general having to pay more for a lesser service from kent police.

Here are the runners and riders only two of which I have heard of and one of them lives in a hotel.

Do not think we need anyone in that post better spending the £100.000 on getting two or 3 ex police officers on the beat.

I have received my postal vote but there is still virtually no information about the candidates from the media. How can anyone put their cross against a name when we know nothing about the candidates and what they stand for.

Their is a reasonable write up on each candidate in this weeks KoS Jan, though there is only one independent candidate, so he shall be getting my vote.

I don't like the idea of it being about party politics, having said that I may well vote for the UKIP as he seems to have the best cv. Postal votes close this Tuesday the 26th.

Have just been reading up on Henry Bolton, though a glowing CV, he served 21yrs in the military during the yugoslavia conflict, gulf war 1 & 2, northern ireland, yet there is no mention of his command posts at all, did he ever have a command or was he always deskbound? there is no mention of rank attained, cv's are very informative in what one includes but there is a lot said by what is ommitted.

Like Howard I also think this should not be political.
According to Wiki he was an infantry officer and at the moment will be getting my vote.
"Henry Bolton OBE (born 1963) is a former British army cavalry soldier, infantry officer, police officer, politician and diplomat described as one of the world's leading experts on developing and implementing integrated border management strategies."

The day after tomorrow we get to choose the new PCC and a handful of St Radigund's residents will decide who the best person from River will represent them on the Town Council - riveting stuff.

A couple of things about Mr Bolton, firstly as Reg pointed out his CV doesn't go into the details of his military service, secondly why does he give his address as a hotel in Folkestone?

Probably because he is living there, sorry I could not resist.

more seriously he might be house hunting in this part of Kent having sold his house as someone I knew did although they used a B&B. I do not care about his military service record but I remember reading some details on one of the sites when I looked him up.

My concern over the lack of his military detail is that as an ex army officer you would emphasise your leadership and command skills, your planning and organisation skills.
It seems he has very little on the ground experience but a lot of policy and planning or desk bound skills, certainly his police force time was back office and not a rank and file officer.

I am appalled that the governance of Kent Police has become a party political competition. I shall not be voting. All the candidates look flaky to me anyway.

If I do make the effort it will just be to spoil the ballot paper as I don't really know what the job entails in practice, I suspect I am not alone in that.
In my memory every Home, Health and Education Secretary has tried to leave their mark with a "great new idea" doesn't matter whether they work in practice.
