Ok then I will remind people
No point voting for our present county members best bet either vote for the greens or a smaller party or don't vote

Wrong Keef.
If Labour get in and screw up the finances at least we'll be able to eat our pets.
You wont be able to do that if the veggie-Nazis take over!

As I keep saying
Politics has long lost its way
Sadly though we are stuck with a one party
With the main opposition poor
So voting for a smaller party maybe at least registers a protest

Getting back on topic with my unpopular opinion - I think it's a shame that at least one of them is being removed so soon.
We know they're not finished, so why complain about the appearance of building materials that presumably won't be visible once they're decorated?

Chris, in which case they should have waited until they were "decorated" then they might have been more acceptable to all of us rather than the eyesore we now have been stuck with.
The Castle Street ones were in the wrong place in the road outside the vets, although their visiting dogs might have made use of them.

A more appropriate setting that might even be useful to those in need of a short rest might be within the St James Retail Development (when they are fully finished as Chris has pointed out). A setting in such an open space would seem more fitting.

I'm getting on my hobby horse again I know, but, there is already a serious lack of parking spaces overnight for residents of the Cherry Tree/Barton Road area. With these five spaces being displaced I guess I'll be parking even further from home when I get back early hours of the morning. Five less spaces for the school run brigade also.

I understand the logic of these, even if they look like a secondary school DT project, but the positioning of one in Cherry Tree is just stupid in my opinion.
As already mentioned by the Duke, those who work shifts and long hours have enough trouble trying to park near their homes, without boxes being placed in parking spaces.

Isn't it 5 metres? So 1 parking space?

I only saw one in Castle Street, on the chippie side which is always in shadow.

Sorry the picture and information I was given was that it/they were almost outside the vets hence my dogs comment, still as they will loose their relief area does it really matter if I got it wrong.

My point was I wouldn't have wanted to sit shivering in the shade.

So our elected councillors didn't think of any of these comments before agreeing to the project?

As 'these comments' were made by various people after the 'parklets' had been parked, it would have taken a telepathist or a prognosticator to 'think' of them. And since most representatives can barely see what's in front of their noses unaided, this is too much to ask.

Just after my post above, I received an email from the KCC Transport Innovations Team that I had emailed on 2nd March about the questionable positioning of the Cherry Tree parklets. They seem to be suggesting that DDC helped them regarding the locations?
I've copied it below:
Thank you for your feedback regarding the parklet scheme in Dover, Kent.
KCC were the lead agency in this project but engaged with local stakeholders including Dover District Council regarding the site locations. Following public feedback, the decision has been made to no longer proceed with the installation of the 5th parklet (proposed for Cherry Tree Avenue); we are currently reviewing the locations for both the 5th parklet and the Castle Street site.
The parklets have been created using sustainably sourced materials and environmentally conscious processes; this can result in more “plain” or “raw” looking structures. The seating has been created using recycled plastic from the sea with the main body being created from sustainably sourced birch plywood. Plants and flowers have been chosen to encourage bees and other pollinators, these however will need time to establish and bloom which will naturally improve the parklet aesthetic.
It has always been our intention to invite local artists, schools and community groups to collaborate with us to create art installations and decorate each parklet. Given the uncertainty we have all been experiencing regarding social restrictions and disruption to day-day working, we had been unable to carry out the community art aspect of the scheme. We intend on proceeding with this phase of the project in line with the government’s COVID-19 recovery plan.
We note there has been concern regarding the funding of parklets over other suggested community improvements. The funding used to deliver this scheme had been allocated to congestion reduction including modal shift (encouraging use of active/sustainable travel methods). Through parklet provision, our intention is to improve the experience of walking and cycling in Dover; improvements in walking and cycling infrastructure have been demonstrated to reduce the number of short duration car journeys.
We value your feedback and will bear this in mind when planning future projects.
