FWIW there were one thousand and ninety eight yesterday!
Perhaps someone is re-enacting Dunkirk with a canal barge that appears to be laying idle?

It's a NARROWBOAT not a barge and certainly NOT a longboat as some have called her.
For info :-
'Update 19 September 2025, 10:25am
Despite the recent rainfall, the water levels in the reservoirs that supply the Leicester Line (Grand Union Canal) have not improved enough to allow us to relax the current navigation restrictions and closures'.
However spent last week on boat which is at present moored in a marina.
(Believe it or not no-one in Crick has heard of Operation Stack/Manston 'Airport or HS1! They are all however, from overheard conversations at the Marina, in the local shop, in the cafe etc talking about 'immigration' - although they seem to understand even less on the subject than many people on this forum)

A thousand in but just three out: 1,072 migrants crossed the Channel yesterday in 13 boats as Starmer's 'one in, one out' scheme fails to deter - and more have arrived today!

Foreign criminals paid up to £2k for agreeing to be deported.
Shabana Mahmood admits payment to nearly 50 offenders on deportation flights ‘doesn’t look good'.
Foreign criminals are being offered up to £2,000 to agree to be deported back to their home countries.
Nearly 50 foreign national offenders (FNOs) were filmed by ITV News being taken from immigration removal centres on Tuesday to be flown back to Romania, where they were each given bank cards pre-loaded with up to £2,000.

A COCK AND KABUL STORY Fury as Afghan dinghy migrant given asylum in UK goes on eight week HOLIDAY to ‘dangerous’ Afghanistan he’d fled
Tory Shadow Justice Secretary Robert Jenrick says 'naive' Government are being 'laughed at' by migrants
(On the plus side at least the Home Office is making decisions on asylum quicker to clear the back-log!)

Remember when Calais used to be a pleasant day trip?
'In the many years I have reported on the migration crisis sweeping Europe, I have never seen the ferry port so overwhelmed'
'Scores of white charity vans with British and French number plates criss-cross the city from dawn to dusk delivering rice meals and water'
'Calais is turning into an unrecognisable battleground'.

International students graduating from UK universities who were awarded "skilled worker" visas were 17 times more likely to become care workers than they were to become programmers or software developers.
More became care workers than all graduate-level jobs combined.
Remember most have master's degrees.

The above figures are not a surprise as many care workers are looking after their children or other relative so choose part time.
Poor spoken English will also make it more difficult to get suitable employment, I have difficulty understanding my medical contact over the phone.

It's a strange fact of life that most people in most countries of the world tend to prefer to live surrounded by people who, on the whole, are quite like themselves.
If that's 'racist' then most people on the planet are and always have been through history.
