Reports that go DDC Cabinet on Monday deal with legal agreements between the developer and the Council & take recommendations from an advisory group that have seen the design work.
Legals need to be concluded before a scheme can be launched.
Providing legals are settled quickly Bond can go public with the scheme & start to acquire the remaing sites required with the certainty of compulsory purchase back up if necessary should market arrangements not work.
That is the background of Monday's meeting.
No dates, just where we are.

Doing can't happen with talking Vic, it is all in the right direction. In these times even talking is a good sign....
Been nice knowing you :)

i have a certain sympathy for what vic says here.
talks have been going on for more than three decades with no result, if the basic things like litter, cleaning the river and generally making the town more easy on the eye cannot be achieved, then there can be no confidence in any major development.

But Vic what is the alternative? What do you want to hear? What can you do better?

people stand for election and say that they can do better, this is not a criticism of todays local leaders just a f
act.

First thing I would do is sort out the planning dept at district, also get get rid of the old school tie setup the district have some very good officers, but some depts are not working with other depts, and the planning dept are a law to them selfs only. also I feel some of the cllrs that sit in high office need to move on now ,they have been there to long. and I do not mean Mr Watkins but I do mean some on his cabinet.

Sorry Vic - broken record yet again. Without someone willing to spend some money planning or anyone else can do absolutely nothing.
The market determines whatever happens in that area and I am sure if anyone comes up with a cost effectective solution for the site that DDC will jump on it.
Been nice knowing you :)

I think Vic is referring to some of the more perverse decisions we have seen over the years, such as allowing Tesco onto an industrial estate but refusing other developments far more appropriate to the area. And we all know how Tesco has helped the town centre flourish, don't we?

Well, they did give fairly substantial sums to DDC as section 106 money, towards making the Town more busy, vibrant and more welcoming, but most of that went to TCM many years ago; the last lot was given to the Dover Chamber of Commerce for my (Dover Business Support Manager's) salary, but the Chamber sacked me so they in turn gave it to their two DBS Managers, both of whom did absolutely nothing for the Town.

Roger, I really think it is time to resolve your resentment regarding the Chamber of Commerce.
Gosh my posts are negative this morning, I do apologise it must be the after affects of having my 19 year old cat put to sleep yesterday.

Maybe Peter, but what examples can be given of something that DDC turned down that was appropriate - Vic has always failed to answer that !!
...and before McArthur Glen is mentioned that was a long time ago now and has little to do with the current planning staff....
Been nice knowing you :)

So no dates, no action, just some vague promises that things are in hand.
Peter, Jenni and myself back directly onto this bomb site, if the least I can do is keep this issue alive then fine.
Other towns manage to network effectively and recruit people who actually know about planning. Dover does, at times, appear a little, well, parochial.

Ditto previous postings by Bern and Dave Little, and concur with some of Mighty Mr Matcham for once.
Folkestone, Ramsgate and Margate are getting their arses in gear in 'challenging' economic times. Why can't Dover?
Compulsory purchase needed on Burlington House now. Thanet have done it with Dreamland, and so should we. There's plenty of hills around Dover for those damned mobile phones masts, last time I looked!
