Barry is a true professional IFA, offering good quality financial advice (I know that, as he looks after my (modest amount of) money).
His success is dependant on his ability, reputation and integrity and any slight against that integrity and honesty must be opposed.
Having said that, I didn't read John's comment that caused the offence, but feel sure that he would not purposely cause Barry's reputation to be sullied and would ask Barry not to pursue anything against John. It would end up being counter-productive.
I can understand Barry's concern about this, but as in many cases in the news lately, banter can have serious, unnecessary, consequences.
I don't agree with your policital viewpoint John, but apart from that, you're a good guy, so come back and carry on posting - you too Barry.

John you do not have a malevolent bone in your body and to threaten you with legal action has reflected very badly on BW. The fact BW is to e mail you privately and drop the matter after consulting his solicitor suggests that he BW had no cast iron case to persue.
John I have no idea who coined the phrase'' publish and be damned'' but it is something Keith, Vic and I have done to encourage debate in the past so please continue with your postings.

You are incorrect in your speculation Ken. I would suggest that it is wise not to comment until John has had a chance to see my email and respond in the manner suggested. People are not aware of the facts. This is to be fair to him.

John can not be allowed to be isolated on this one, and i will with others be providing the legal expertese for john should he need to take that route.
As much as i have disagreed with barryw's views or personal attacks on individuals i have always suppported his right to post.
Even down to when our very own paulb banning him, i asked paulb not to ban barryw.
The last few days have been sad not only on the reflection of barryw as ken says, but also for the forum.

As you can see Barry has visited his solicitor and sent myself and Paul an e-mail about the advice he recieved.
You all could see it was a light hearted joke which Barry took the wrong way,and if it did besmirch Barry's name or reputation then I am truly sorry.
But in his e-mail to me he has not only told me what to say but asked me to use my own words!
I hope Barry will put the e-mail on the forum as a warning to anybody who has a joke or any other banter with Barry,he is liable to visit his solicitor.
I said it was a joke I have apologised but will not grovel after some of the things and names he has called people on here,including me!
I would like to thank everyone who has voiced thier opinion on here and on my personal e-mail as well as birthday wishes,it is appeciated many have said it is petty-Barry doesn't agree- and I find it hard to post on here as you should with a threat of legal action being used against me or you.and at the moment I will not post.
