14:0285604Its pathetic. Another example of our insane health and safety culture. Whatever happened to being expected to take a bit of care...

14:0785605Very true Barry is annoying when they have such a back log just shows a lack of loyalty towards their customers.

14:0985608not where i live barry, the pavements are treacherous and the steps up and down to people's houses are bad enough without any snow and ice.
the milklady finally delivered this morning, last delivery was on wednesday.

14:1185609Absolutely, BarryW! I don't want to sound VictorMeldrewish, but we used to get 2 deliveries, deliveries on Sundays, and all in the mornings!! And the H&S thing is such a travesty - it has just led to a rash of claims that, even if they don't succeed, have taken considerable time and money to hear. As you say, just take some care!!

14:1485613Agreed the pavements are grim - I have just been out and I called my Mother to tell her to stay indoors - but overall, the H&S stuff is a disgrace. An excuse to do less.

14:2385620The posties in Essex must be hard. Six inches of snow Saturday and eight last week and we've had post everyday except one day when the first heavy snow fell.

15:5885640And that may have been due to deliveries not getting to the sorting office Jeanne....
This really is absurd. What a wimpy attitude they have at our local sorting office - from what Jeanne says it does sound like a local ruling.
Bern is so right - I have not known the post to be stopped before for such reasons.

17:1585670I have to say the postmen and women here are excellent, they really do go above and beyond the call of duty sometimes. Example - I mentioned to our regular postman a few months back that I was waiting for an urgent package. He double checked his bag and said it definitely hadn't arrived yet. He got back to the sorting office and found it had since turned up there so he dropped it round to me on his way home! Having endured the postal service in North London for many years I can say Essex is postal heaven!

17:4185681so whilst not wanting to defend royal mail, courier companies probably dont have the high amounts of mail to move around.
but if its correct that royal mail didnt employ enough casuals for the xmas period then those managers should be looked into as to whether or not they should stay in employment

17:4385682Good post there Keith (#16). I repeat what I said previously, time to privatise Royal Mail, after all if even Keith has seen how private enterprise do it better and acted accordingly - it really must be time... That and getting some sense into the idiotic H&S rules.

17:4785684Is it right they get the day off with full pay under such circumstances AND then get paid overtime to clear the backlog?
