13:3416223Dave1, I think it's a pity someone has chosen to take this outside of the forum. I think that the issue is whether the joke was close to the mark or whether it crossed the line, PaulB ruled the former so that's it as far as I'm concerned.

13:4316224Maggie - I dont want any wrong impressions here. My understanding of the call from DC's office is that it was a friendly and advisory one that informed Roger of the politically motivated activites of the complainant. It was not hostile to Roger and is not itself the direct cause of Roger's decision. That fault is entirely with the humourless idiot who complained.

13:5716226Sid - I did not mention your name to give you a chance to own up and explain yourself. Given your last post it is clear that you have no intention of doing so and are trying to pretend it was not you. Sad.

14:0816228i am totally taken aback by the furore, it is even on kent online.
this all reminds me of the brian martin incident many moons ago.
then it was a lib dem chap that used the joke made to further his political career and get his face in the local paper.
this will be like cluedo, working out who the miscreant is here.

14:4116230Roger Walkden - don't you DARE stop posting on our forums!
I've met you several times and you are the very epitome of the word gentleman. I know you would NEVER say or do anything to hurt or upset anyone. How can a man who cares so passionately about Dover and its people be treated like this - it's beyond me it really is!
Please Roger don't let this idiot - whoever he/she is - get the better of you. You can tell by all your supporters on here how angry we all are about this, I was gobsmacked when I saw this on the front page because it was the first I knew about it.
As for the joke - I found it funny and no different to jokes about other minority groups. The only time I find jokes offensive is when they are at the expense of someone who has just died or someone who is suffering, I don't need to elaborate on that I'm sure.
You just keep being the lovely man you are and don't let this imbecile get you down. We all love you Roger - even Keith lol.
There's always a little truth behind every "Just kidding", a little emotion behind every "I don't care" and a little pain behind every "I'm ok".

14:5116232Thank you, BarryW. I'm sure the call from David Cameron's office wasn't hostile. I do hope, however, that this isn't the only time they've contacted him; it would be a shame if the only occasion was for a perceived problem and the only subject were that.
As an aside, it's surprising, the number and level of organisations that appear to have been made aware of Roger's posting.

15:0116234Yes Maggie and it is sad that the person responsible is not owning up and maintaining a pretence. I am not the only person who knows, he is sussed.

15:1716241After all the sterling work Roger has done over the years promoting Dover and local businesses, it is absolutely pathetic that the knives are drawn over one juvenile, albeit mildly un-PC, joke that quite frankly has been knocking about for years. I'd like to know what the complainant has ever done for Dover, it seems to me wholly absurd that this complainant has resorted to sitting on the sidelines and sniping to try to bring down one of Dover's hardest workers and promoters simply due political differences.

16:0316249Roger, I have not been a forumite for long, but long enough to know, you would not use a joke to offend anyone, some jokes are funny some are not, it is just a joke. It is not important for everyone to agree with each other, but it is important to hear all sides, views and opinions. Please do not stop posting, you have done nothing wrong.

16:5216256Unlike a majority of voters I think rightly or wrongly that Rogers decision to stop posting is the correct one and has been taken under guidance and advice. He probably wants this storm in a teacup to pass.
All I can say to the anonymous grass is that Roger is as far removed from being a racist as most of us are.He spent this morning with me in assisting to organise a Filipino/Asian Festival which we are hoping to stage on the last Bank Holiday in August 29/30.I wasn't going to release the details until everything had been agreed by all the interested busy bodies. We have had numerous meetings and discussions during which time Roger has been an absolute rock.
The 'grass' has done nothing to dent our hopes but has hurt Roger and Jean deeply in that anyone would think that the joke represented Rogers own personal views on matters.Should the culprit wish to meet with me for a full and frank exchange of views I'm only more than willing to listen to his/her. arguments.
As an Irish/Polak married to a Filipina you have our undying support.

18:0016266Thanks for that Barry, but I do not criticize fellow Councillors,I will have a go at their policies and do,but a lesson Jim Hood taught me,being a Cllr is not always easy we are often given a hard time and sometimes rightly but we are all trying to do our best,it is just that one side has got it wrong not my side of course.
I have many friends on the opposite benches and I would like to think Nigel Sue and Roger are collegues first and friends, but let me at them in the Council chamber.Seriously we look at the same problems from different angles and we don't always agree, but I don't hold it against them if they are wrong.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

19:5616277...a plane journey
A Muslim was sitting next to Paddy on a plane.
Paddy ordered a whiskey.
The stewardess asked the Muslim if he'd like a drink. He replied in disgust "I'd rather be raped by a dozen ladies of the night than let liquor touch my lips!"
Paddy handed his drink back & said "Me too, I didn't know we had a choice!"
+++++++++++++
Dam it now I'm in trouble, than maybe not I'm not in politics.

sitting in a chinese restuarant he thinks to himself, there are israeli jews, russian jews, american jews, i wonder if there are any in china.
the waiter comes up and tommy asks him "do you have any chinese jews"?
the waiter dissappears comes back a few minutes later and says "sorry no chinese jews, only orange jews, lemon jews and pineapple jews".
