21:0316163I have asked Paul(B) to remove the Fairy joke from the jokes section as it appears that some people (!!) have made a complaint about it.
To anyone who has been offended by this joke, I apologise; I aplogise unreservedly that it has caused such monumental offence.
I hope I won't get castigated for saying that I am also sorry that complaints can be made under the umbrella of racism - I have never been racist in my life, I don't have any racist thoughts at all.
I'm sure the camplainent will be happy to know that this is my last posting on the subject and the Forum - to save PaulB and the Forum any further embarrassment.

21:1416165Roger do not let the pc brigade beat you. I for one value your postings and consider that the Forum will be worse off should you leave.

23:1316182Roger, It says more about the small minded humourless complainant than you. You have absolutely nothing to apologise for and nothing to be ashamed of. You should be robust in sticking by what is right.
Such politically correct fools must not be allowed to get away with such narrow minded bigotry, you are bigger than this. If you leave then I will just have to be doubly politically incorrect to make up for it and to stuff them.

23:3516189Roger, whilst I personally felt the joke was unfunny and inappropriate, I see no need to stop posting here.
Carrying on would be a public service as it would stop BarryW carrying out his threat to be twice the ...

07:5216194Roger, I would miss you!!! We disagree fabulously on lots of things, but one thing I have learned from you is how much we also have in common!! If you hadn't been posting on here and sharing your own wisdom I would have missed that. We are both right and both wrong, and we need to have the space to slug it out!! Don't abandon us!

08:5916198Well Im staggered about the scale of this issue...Roger has now been contacted re the joke by none other than David Cameron's office...which of course is quite a shock to all of us for it to reach national proportions.
Obviously Roger is one of our star contributors, and one of Dover's best communicators, so it does seem some kind of sacrilege for him to have to stop communicating.
Our editorial policy is roughly this...
We are sensitive about stuff that goes on our frontpage because it reaches a wider audience, an audience that may not participate on Doverforum everyday, so would probably be unaware of the various tongue in cheek personalities contributing and what we say and how we say it..
On the Forum we get away with a bit more but of course still are sensitive to issues of race and so on, and we have never had any trouble. Ive never had to delete anything because of race.
Ther jokes page is much more loosely controlled because Im aware that they are just jokes. I mean much of it could be construed as mildly offensive but isnt that the nature of jokes these days. There are some jewish jokes, irish jokes, sexual innuendo jokes...things you of course couldnt get away with saying straight, or saying them straight on our frontpage for example. Thats always been the policy and indeed we have never had any problems..although there have been a couple of complaints before about some sex content, but thats over the space of a long period of time.
Roger has asked me now to take the joke down following pressure. Let me see what the next move is...at this point we will have to examine the position a bit further.
We certainly do NOT want Roger to quit posting as his communications are so valuable. More enthusiasm for Dover you cannot find in any one person.

I don't usually read the jokes section, but I have just read your posting, although I dont share your humour ? on this joke, I do feel that although we probably disagree on a number of Issues we do have one shared aim, and that is to see a better Dover.
We may well differ on the way we want to achieve these aims, but thats no bad thing.
I hope you will continue posting,
keith

10:0416202The reason Roger received the call from DC's office is a result of a person I will not name on this forum who has been in contact with, among other people, the BBC. Roger feels he has no choice.
This whole thing is has been no more than political mischief making of the very worse kind and as I have said it says more about the complainant. I wont say more because I will be too tempted to let rip...
By the way, Keith, thanks for your mature and balanced outlook. I would not want you tainted or tarred with the wrong brush over this despite our disagreements.

11:2916212Roger, you are a stalwart contributor to Doverforum with your vast input of very interesting and informative comments covering various topics. Everyone who knows you, knows you are a Gentleman and a great advocate for Dover. To lose your very valuable contributions on this Forum would be an enormous loss to the community as a whole. I hope that this issue can be resolved amicably.

11:3716213It would be betterif this gutless person revealed their identity and explained why it was necessary to contact the media over such a petty matter.
Sid you are normally a prolific contributor to the political section, what are your views?

11:4716214In the time that I have known you Roger, I have never met anyone else who has such an enormous sense of community spirit for Dover. Your patriotic drive and continuing work to bring in more business and pride for Dover is incalculable. Your contributions to Doverforum and the Loyalty scheme and your general all round work as a councillor is of huge benefit to the community. There is nobody as loyal as your goodself. Keep up the good work.

12:3916216Roger, dear, please don't disappear. I have never known you as anything other than a complete gentleman, reliable and with integrity, always doing your best. I am sad indeed if you've been hurt, and it would be a great loss if you were to stop posting here.
With utmost respect to David Cameron's office, I would suggest that if they are contacting Roger, maybe they should think about praising him for the sterling work he tries to do for us. Moreover, Roger's has always seemed a beneficial and friendly local face for the party to me, thereby not a problem in representation but an asset.

13:0416219Have I got the wrong joke?????
I thought it was the one about the family coming to Britain. If I have it wrong sorry, just made a posting in the open comments page.
Roger please read my post in there and please do not stop posting on the forum, your contribution over the years may not have been to everyones liking however, those that know you, know you are a good man passionate about Dover, and works hard to help make things better for us all, it will be a sad loss to the forum if you go.
