  Sad to see that they have had to cut back the trees in pencester so drastically, some good pictures of the storm on the Frontpage just goes to show you sure had to hang on to your hat

  Taken down or pollarded ? The ones outside my office are extremely cut back every year and they come back and thrive !

  i did wonder that myself as the trees across the road in the walk past "k college" were pollarded in the autumn.
  
  then i thought that it seemed to much of a coincidence after the damage yesterday and that pollarding is not usually done at this time of year.

  the tree in #posts 33 and 34 is now a stump,ideal to sit on in the summer while eating your lunch.

  Very rough night out in the Dover Strait and we had a nasty surprise making our entrance into Dover just over an hour ago.
  
  A sudden squall blew through which registered 97.7 knots on our anemometer (it incorporates a digital readout of the latest maximum reading).
  
  Take off 12 knots for the ships speed at the time and that makes it 85 knots which is 98 mph.

  It seems a bit drastic to cut back the tree to a stump , but then I am not a tree surgeon and cannot make an informed decision in this case. It reminds me of the famous stump in Maison Dieu Road opposite the clinic, which is now a local monument, stump that is

  Very interesting post Ed no 45. Very dangerous gust that, good grief 98mph...wind seriously gusting at the moment but sea surprisingly not looking immensely rough right now but rough enough out there in the channel i suspect. Bet it was indeed rough out there last night...not a night for landlubbers on an excursion!
  
  Have the latest DFDS info on sailings now on our frontpage..just in at 9.25.
