18:2678803The more the merrier in terms of competition.
Especially when I note that according to the Office for National Statistics UK food prices were 9.8% higher last month than a year ago.
All rather worrying.

07:4278869Thanks Jeanette.
The more shops that are open along Castle Street, the better for all the other shops too. Hope someone takes it over soon after it closes and not left to look sad and neglected.

14:2678933It's a a shame that we will lose SmArt Stationary, especially as Peter employed the ladies from the previous owners. I was told about the closure some time ago as they are one of our advertisers and was asked to keep it confidential.

16:3478958Roger, I might design a post-card of Dover, with one shop for every day of the week, and throngs of people coming from all over Dover District to Dover, abandoning Deal and Sandwich shops, and carrying back bags of shopping to all the corners of the District!

16:4478961Shouldn't DDC be maintaing a ballance of shops and shopping all over the District? I mean, as a District Council!

20:4879173Re Asda Neto, is extending to the side in the car park spaces next to them we are not moving and neither are farm foods or poundstretchers we have a long time left on our leases yet. if you go on the Dover gov web site you can see the new plans for asda, all the shops are as existing ones are, and all are individually named as the existing shops no change what so ever. Its all there for every one to see. Hope this puts some minds at rest and stops all these silly rumors that are doing the rounds.

22:4179200In that case there is a strong possibility the car park could be linking up with the Charlton Centre at some time, I have not been to the site humphy mentions.
You might like to know the latest silly rumour, Jolleys, Farmfoods and Poundstretcher will be moved into the old Sainsbury site. They forget about leases etc.

01:2979211Honestly, who makes up these rumours?? Is someone sitting there wondering what wacky rumour they can come with next just to see how gullible people are?!
I came up with a good one the other day but I can't use it on here cos Ross will bust me!
I know a million ways to always pick the wrong thing to say

13:4679264So, after all, no scaled down Sainsbury's adjacent to their old site, then? Is this true or false? And are rumours of Asda blasting through the grim carbuncle that is the Charlton Centre (at last) also just another heap of flim-flam?
And is there any 'progress' on the DTIZ?

15:4179274Indeed
No Sainsbury's for now
Asda will not be moving into or onto the Charlton centre
Jolley's, Farmfoods Poundstretcher will not be moving
Little progress on DTIZ, though a planning application to demolish the old Halfords has been submitted

16:2879280Do you mean the old MFI building, Ross, rather than Halfords?

17:3979311It was the old MFI building for demolition.
There's no real progress on DTIZ as such, other than to say there's a new architect for the development and they have stated it must be the right one and not a quick on.
There is greater confidence in Bond City Ltd and they are moving forward with the Council's blessing.

22:2479550So who heard that Harrods were going to move onto the DTIZ until they discovered the business rates were higher than in Knightsbridge?
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

But it might have just been beer fuelled chatter in the pub...

22:4979557Chris, you have reminded me of my youth. I trained to be a florist at Harrods for three years after I left school ending up doing the floral displays for the windows and departments. I left to work in my future father-in-law's pub for more money and less hours.
